I love all the awareness but I think people are forgetting black WOMEN are also being seen as a threat. There’s tons of missing black girls in D.C alone that no one talks about and cops are neglecting to find out what has happened to.

How much longer do we need to fight and “be strong”? Dealing with racism in the military right now. They don’t see it as racism but it is. It’s disgusting how black women are treated especially in the military.
@johannasegura51594 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more. Instead of any type of racism being fixed, we're told to be strong and deal with it. We're tired of being forced to be strong all the fucking time. We're tired of being called masculine for it. We're human. We're women. And like every woman and every other person, we need protection.

First i want to start by saying im so sorry that this world has treated you or any other black person unfairly. My husband and i are both latinos. We literally share the same culture. He is afro latino and i am not. I can truly say that i have seen for my own eyes how he gets treated differently than me. Its sad and it’s hurtful. We have 2 kids and the world will always see them as black just like my husband. Its a scary thought to think that they will get treated differently because of it. I truly pray that the world can make a change. It all starts in our homes. Racism is not something people are born with. Its not enough to say “im not racist” and benefit from the white supremacy. We gotta consciously make an effort to be mindful how our actions affect others.
@tulio_sa4 жыл бұрын
Me, as an afrobrazilian guy, can relate to almost everything you said. My partner is a white European man, and the treatment we both get in the same environment is so scary and let me so down. Once, in a restaurant, the waiter just looked and talked to my boyfriend. The waiter gave the menu to only my bf. I felt invisible and so freaking bad. I hope your kids grow up in a better world. 💜

So true, we suppress it, and never get help for the emotional stress caused by racism. I was born in 1966, right in the midst of the civil rights struggle. I’ve seen a lot, a lot a child shouldn’t see or experience, a lot a teenager shouldn’t experience all the way from a young adult through middle age. And I’m just so tired of seeing and experiencing racism. But we are strong, society has given us no choice but to be strong. Praying that one day, my children and my grandchildren will not have to continue to see this vicious cycle of racism that never seems to end. 😔

I'm sorry if my question is insensitive, but do you happen to have any stories you're comfortable enough to share? It's totally fine if you don't want to talk about it, I'm just really interested in how poc who were born during that time experienced the whole movement. Thanks 🙏
@jay87504 жыл бұрын
wonu's eggeutarteu no I don’t mind at all...let’s start with both my maternal and paternal great-great grandparents were born into slavery, that would make me only 4 generations removed from slavery, hard to fathom right? My personal experiences began in Kindergarten, because prior to kindergarten, my parents managed to shield my siblings and myself from the ugliness of racism as long as they could. In kindergarten, circa 1970, corporal punishment was allowed in public schools, my white teacher took every opportunity to take advantage of that power only for the black children in my class including myself. She never stopped reminding us how inferior African Americans were in her eyes, until enough parents, including my parents filed complaints against her and the schools corporal punishment policy. She left the school and they got rid of the corporal punishment policy that only seemed to apply to African American and other minority races. Those racist experiences continued throughout school, even throughout my career in the Army. No matter how much smarter, how much stronger, how much more disciplined, how much more dedicated I was in school K-12, in college, and in the military, no matter how hard I worked for equality, discrimination and fear by white people that I would surpass their level ( and that level being solely based on white privilege) was my reality. Did I ever let them impede my success, nope, I just got smarter and stronger. I am a fourth generation descendant of slaves and I will continue to live my life with strength and dignity and make them proud. I have a family member that is a genealogist and a historian. She shares all of her research with us, she shared a death announcement from an obituary for my great-great grandmother Harriet Turner from November 4, 1911 who was born a slave and died free, her white employers (former slave owners) announced her death..she was 66 years old and they called her a “house girl”. What my people have endured is unimaginable, the oppressors and descendants of our oppressors will never understand, no matter how much education they receive about the devastating effects of over 400 years of racism, oppression, and white supremacy/privilege.
@alicelovesminhyuk4 жыл бұрын
@@jay8750 Thank you for the reply! As someone who's never experienced anything like this (I'm white as snow), it's really hard to imagine what your people have gone through. What *we* have done to you. I am so sorry that you had to go through this and I'm also very sorry that I can't do much to alter your future experiences regarding race. I'm just trying to educate myself as much as I can, signing petitions and donating whatever I can, but I feel like it's still not enough. Sure - I can't "reverse" racism by donating a couple bucks, but I at least want to find out how I can stop profiting off of my privilege. I read a really cool explanation of white privilege recently - "White privilege doesn't mean that white people don't have tough problems in their lives. It means that none of these problems were caused by the color of their skin." Anyway, I'm rambling. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me, it really helps me understand what pain and suffering I've been ignoring for far too long. You sound like a beautiful, smart and strong woman, keep doing you! ❤️
