From one guitarist to another, you did a damn good job regardless of minor foibles. If playing an immortal song like this is adequate to you, it's gold to us mere mortals. I feel for Mr. Fripp, he's the best guitar player in my eyes, for him to still be humbled down by an impossible or at least probable test of focus and mental strength after 48 years. Of course to be honest, it hasn't been too bad to him on the outside, he hasn't aged much from it. It like the Terror sequence from Larks' Tongue in Aspic 4 was similar, if not influenced by the Terror sequences in this song. Or vice versa because I'm probably wrong on the assessment. I know I would not want to try this, I actually don't try to play songs. I write my own pieces and hope for the best but still I can not miss an intense performance and honestly between this and the one previous, you nailed it. Now in 26 years if you get to chat with Mr. Fripp about it, that'd be something.

IF I May: 1. Admiration for even attempting this thing and our execution is never perfect when recording. 2. Get Sennheiser HD 600 phones, those Sony's are a danger to your ears. 3. Sit down. There is noticeable shaking of the guitar when doing the aggressive parts - that is why RF sits - to minimize the movement of the instrument (remember his tiny movements statement - if the guitar is travelling back and forth in space then you can't be 1000% precise.) 4. I can't believe that after 22 years your battery was not fully charged before shooting this (Lol - just raggin' ya dood!) 5. Really GREAT JOB and serious kudos again for even caring about this project - I studied Fracture when it came out (as a 13-year old) and decided that the ACTION and PURSUIT of that kind of perfection was ITSELF the LESSON - the 8 hour reps of single phrases are the only way to ever accomplish such playing. It is your day job. Having done such reps for awhile, your playing ability triples (as you now know) and it is the lesson that I used - I do not play that picking style and I (for MYSELF) never wanted to copy another guitar player's notes, only his METHODS. So for that, we must thank RF for the LESSONS...at the cost of $11.99 on iTunes...pretty cheap lessons on HOW TO PLAY GUITAR. God Bless RF.
@MakeWeirdMusic3 жыл бұрын
A lot to reply to, so I'll start with: thank you! 2. I don't normally wear headphones and my kids have destroyed my open ear headphones. :/ 3. Not against sitting down and I've spent a lot of time practicing while standing the past few years, so it's comfortable for me. 4. LOL 5. Thank you so much. 6. Agreed. RF is a guitar god. I'm just happy to have gotten as far as I did. I'm happy to have captured what I did. Playing it in front of multiple cameras, lights, hard drives, etc. was not something I wanted to practice and get good at.

Robert has been extremely kind and supportive of this work. He is protective of his music, but he is not selfish.

1. I love this channel, thanks. 2. I know nothing about guitar playing so please go easy on me. Can someone explain to me in a nutshell why this is apparently so much more difficult than the kind of shred metal solo I see 12 year olds on KZbin bashing out all the time? Is it a question primarily of the stamina required, or the particular sequence of notes, or what? I've seen you play a lot of stuff that looks very demanding much more easily and comfortably than this.

I did a series of videos about this called failure to fracture. I think there’s a playlist for it on my channel page. What did essentially comes down to is stamina, precision, and a lifestyle that enables one to perform a piece like this

Thanks. I just re-watched it and I still feel the same. I probably missed 100-200 notes. Oh well. I'll take a B over all the years of complete failure! haha

Quite an accomplishment, even the undertaking of such a risky piece. I'm glad you did so I don't need to :)

@@MakeWeirdMusic In the 80's I did attempt to learn Fracture by ear off the LP. I learned much about failure and risked multiple fractures :) Still love the piece

As a guitarist and great fan of Robert Fripp. I have also experimented the Guitar Craft courses in San Cugat (probably the most intense, disturbing, and wonderful experience in my musical life). Your approach and the presentation of your practice is really interesting . As on Fracture your play is wonderfull, what we can hear and see is the quality of your work. Thanks a lot, keep going and remember "A completion is a new beginning"..... What's next ???

"What's next" has been a few things: 1. Starting a new company to become fully self-employed: edifycontent.com 2. Writing another couple of books (one is coming out in the next 6 weeks, the other in the next year) 3. A couple of musical things, but honestly I haven't played much guitar at all recently. Thank you for your kind attention.

Well performed. Your description of the technical approaches used in this reminds me of what is needed for some of the more demanding classical guitar pieces in terms of precision and minimizing movement to be able to play things at tempo. Just for grins, look up versions of the Villa Lobos Etudes 1-12 by one of the major players, especially the first two Etudes, for a similar technical demand on fingerstyle technique.
@MakeWeirdMusic3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agreed. I used to play a couple of his Etudes on classical guitar. Super super hard and lots of fun. FraKctured is less fun. :) Thanks, Kim!
