This is incredible. I'm a Spanish makina DJ living in Reading and I never heard about it. I knew about the UK hardhouse (we call it bumping in Spain) which I used to mix with "cantaditas" (songs with a predominat female melodic voice) I'll have to pay a visit to the North East now 🤟

As a Spanish, it is really weird to listen to Makina with the speakers rapping over the melodies, but English blokes seem to fucking enjoying it, which is the most important thing. I lived in the UK for 5 years, but down the south, very far from Newcastle. People seem to easily judge these people calling them chavs and stuff, but look at the area... the goverment doesn't give a shit about Newcastle. Sad shit. I would call chavs the ones I met in Abingdon, where they decided to live like tough guys, rejecting all the good oportunities that they have in their environment, but about these guys... they have my respect, I just wish peace and happiness to them. Kind regards from Spain

It's also bollocks, you can compare these people in the 90s/00s to people from the american south, not very accepting of anyone different, probably attacked a few goths on the way in for example. You either fit in with how they looked and acted or youd be fighting because of how insecure they are with their masculinity. Love the music but the generic type of person going to these things was not a very good one.

This is brilliant. The Comusica project looks brilliant. This scene gets a looked down on - mostly from people who don't know the people or the scene. But it's among the most accepting you'll find and you're just as likely to encounter trouble outside an All Bar One. Lovely to see these young guys channelling their energy into something creative.

As a spaniard, (valencian specifically) definately would love makina to become more known (mainly cuz rn it's pretty much relegated to "remember" parties and thus you're kinda forced to be the only person under 30 depending on the area. really recomend researching "la ruta del bakalao" as it heavily influenced makina and it's for some reason rarely acknowleged outside of spain.

@purrrbot2 жыл бұрын
Seriously. Makina/HHC/breakcore/hardstyle/etc are still a massive thing in SoCal, Seattle and Phoenix. I think because the party promoters have close relationships with DJs/MCs in the UK/Spain/Etc that it would be impossible to fully untangle the two communities separated by 1000s of miles. Really grateful to have grown up in the west coast raving community.

This is honestly quite unique. I've been living in England for 4 years and never heard about it. Makina movement was certainly very strong in Spain in the 90s, specially in Catalonia. But never was associated with Gay culture or roots as the video says. The decline actually came with far right political movements associated, along with the low quality of productions in the last days. There were obviously a lot of open minded ravers as well, but I don't think you wanted to be or look gay on this Spanish clubs at the time. Great work anyway!
@yosiposi4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, I don't know where he got that from, it's completely wrong. I'm sure there were closeted makineros, but they would've got massively bullied or violently beaten up if they had opened up about being gay in public. Not to mention kissing or holding hands, I regard this as quite impossible.
@llorencgarcia95293 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, here born in Barcelona. By the late 90's Musica maquina, was associated with right-wing skinheads and far-right crowd. I remember having to change my way of coming back home on Saturday night to don't cross in front of Musica maquina clubs. I would say that the original valencian maquina scene, when Chimo Bayo, in the early '90s, the scene was more diverse, but by the end of 90's music maquina was 100% associated with far-right movements and skinhead subcultures.

I'm from Germany and discovered makina about 2 years ago now. The Spanish stuff is definitely the stuff that has more soul, more personality attached to it. I especially enjoy DJ Pumu, his productions where awesome. As well as basically everyone else who did makina between 1995 and maybe 2005. I'd say some names to check out are DJ Pildo, Xavi Metralla and DJ Ruboy (especially his ~2002 stuff). Dj names are really confusing though, i'd say around 60% percent of tracks where produced by the same 4 people, just with different aliases. Tony Costa, Gerard Requena, Jaime Panadero, Konik and all those.. Makina just warms my heart even though I'm only 24 and i never heard it back in the day. Especially here in Germany. Love!❤ And I'm gonna leave this song title here, have fun! Wax - Destiny
