Making 5 micron Anode Bags for Copper Plating

It has come to my attention that you want .5 Micron The higher the number the bigger the hole in the micron world.

Just an update the 5 micron filter is amazing and allows a faster transfer for copper than the 1 micron or the .5 micron

Do you still think 5 micron is the best choice? Also, do you have any thoughts on polyester vs polypropylene? I found a table that says polyester is unsatisfactory for concentrations of 50% and higher sulfuric acid content. I know we aren't using concentrations that high, but I was still wondering how prolonged contact with plating solutions affects it, if at all. Thanks for all the great info, just got into plating myself and you have helped a lot!

Jason... fine vid you've done & posted. Am wondering about the "upgrade" to 5 microns from 1 micron relative to the bags not holding the copper sediment. 5 microns is a larger opening than 1 micron. I thought you might be meaning to say .5 but forgot the "point." But then your "update" below specifically says the 5 is better than 1 or .5 ... Be great if you would clarify.

I hear what your saying and understand the reasons as you describe them just pointing out as you know a 5 micron pore size is larger than a 1 micron..The leakage must be -1 micron. using an anode bag (5 micron felt) doesn't slow down the plating? Also, does the glue from glue gun contaminate bath and or deteriorate due to the acid?

Hi. Thanks. Do you have any ideas of what to do with all the copper that builds up? I mean creatively not how to dispose of it..maybe conductive paint?

Another tip for you guys :) If you use rods as anode. You can pinch the electrical wire with A hose clamp. Then seal all around it with silicone. Holds tight and no risk of any contamination when mixing materials close to water level. Not necessary when everything is copper but others like Nickel plating. You can use silicone on all anodes whatever shape it is.

Great idea, never heard of anode bags before. So they keep the solution cleaner for longer but did you say they also help to produce shinier surfaces? Guess as a byproduct of a clean solution... I didn't get what you said about why 1 micron filters would not be as good as 5 microns. Anyways, super informative videos on a rarely covered subject, thank you.

So I am curious with the polyester felt, which side of the fabric should face the tank and which side faces the copper anode? When you look at the felt fabric, one side is slightly slick, the other is more felt-like or fuzzy.

ok 4 - LDPE - Low-density Polyethylene: it's not the same but close. The one you recommend would cost me close to $60 with shipping. I tried to order it and....(message: Shipping: May not ship to Spain. Read item description or contact seller for shipping options. ) Fisher Scientific Inc. Spain has something better they say....Merck Omnipore™ Membrane Filters, 0.1 μm but, you must buy the whole pack of 25 1x1 meter squares 550.00€ which is actually cheaper then Amazon per piece So no filter for me oh well.......

Just pointing out this is not 5 micron bags it’s 0.5 micron so it is an upgrade over the 1 micron Just take a look at the linked fabric 0.5 micron
