Just found your channel tonight and especially loving your book videos as I am new to bookbinding. Wondering about how you did the measuring for the spine and gaps. I noticed you kept the covers away from the spine when you measured. Is that because you already planned on a 7mm gap?
@rururereii
@rururereii Жыл бұрын
Aww thank you! So glad you like my videos! For the "board" of the spine, I measured the spine of the text block and added 1mm on each sides. For the gaps, yes I did plan to have 5mm gaps for the end result. But when I glued the boards to the fabric, I added 7mm of gaps to make room for the fabric that might get folded inside the gaps. So when the cover is glued to the text block, I ended up with 5mm gaps (the gaps are added for flexibility) *I hope it makes sense, sorry if it's hard to understand :( I might have to make a video on this to explain it! Thank you :)
@winterlude100
@winterlude100 Жыл бұрын
@rururereii Thank you so much for replying. I sort of get it except why do you add a mm extra to each side of the spine piece?
@rururereii
@rururereii Жыл бұрын
For me, I find that it makes the spine looks good. Some people make them the exact measurement as the spine of the text block, but when I tried it, I don't like the look of it. It kind of makes the covers look "pulled" to the spine? I don't know if it makes sense but that's the only way I can describe it lol. Some people also make the spine measurement with the spine of the text block + cover boards thickness, but I also don't like the look of that.. But feel free to experiment and have fun with it, good luck :)

I know its a very weird question but I've seen some of your animal drawings and you draw them without face so does that have a reason or its just your style?
@rururereii
@rururereii Жыл бұрын
Hey! It's okay, it's not weird haha. It's just because drawing faces are pretty hard for me, and I never encouraged myself to learn, so I just don't do it lol. Although, sometimes I do draw faces with simple dots and lines

@universelove6163 thank you! Hmm, I'm not very sure about it, but I don't think it's possible.. Maybe if you want to bind the text block with a coptic stitch but make it with a regular hardcover, but then the coptic stitch won't be visible. I'm not sure about other ways, I'm sorry :(

@rururereii
@rururereii Жыл бұрын
@@magueb Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your purchase! I got my paper from a brand called storaenso, here's the link: www.storaenso.com/en/products/paper/book-papers/creamy But, I'm not sure if you can buy from there because I can't find the shop on their website. I'm just lucky to have a store that resell them where I live.. I'm not sure about the color, but the one that I can refer you to is this one from amazon: www.amazon.com/Natural-Cream-A4-Printer-Paper/dp/B07MCW1RSB/ref=sr_1_9?crid=17QZJ7WJ3W8GS&keywords=cream%2Bprinter%2Bpaper&qid=1676707411&sprefix=cream%2Bprinter%2Bpaper%2Caps%2C686&sr=8-9&th=1 and also this one: www.amazon.com/Neenah-01345-Classic-Premium-Natural/dp/B000RTLKFI/ref=sr_1_12?crid=13AVWGTA1DC06&keywords=ivory%2Bcopy%2Bpaper&qid=1676707909&sprefix=ivory%2Bcopy%2Bpaper%2Caps%2C568&sr=8-12&th=1 If you want to look for it, you can search "cream copy paper" or "ivory copy paper". I'm sorry if this is not enough, but I hope this can help you find the paper that you want!
