Yes, a the screened in outdoor room (a.k.a. a "catio") is an excellent solution. You could even get a dog kennel, and push it against a window so that when you open the window she has access to the outdoors in the large dog kennel. Put all sorts of indoor outdoor cat furniture for her to play on and she will be a very happy cat. She can also visit with Pablo out there.

Terrific update! So glad to see Lil Housecat nee Barncat doing well. The hardest thing about making an outdoor cat an indoor cat is their loss of range. Happily, you seem to have a big sprawling house, so there will still be lots of territory for Lil to explore and claim. BTW - one reason Pablo hissed at Lil may be that she now smells strange to him from being indoors so long. Esp. if she was fresh back from the vet, and smelled of **Evil Place**.

Glad she’s better! A cat tree is a good idea! Also a scratching post! The toys will help. An another note, when I got married, I brought my cat with me; she’d been an in/out cat for the first 4-5 years. But I didn’t want to chance her running off & getting lost or hit by a cat so she became an indoor cat. We screened off the balcony so she could sit out on the porch. Later, she had another cat to keep her company. She was 18years old when she died. So love her & give her things to occupy herself with & she could live a very long time.

Yay, Lil' house cat! Two things we've learned from our cats that you need to watch out for: Lil may charge the doors when you go in and outside. She may get out without y'all realizing it, like when you are carrying something like a big bag of garbage, groceries or a laundry basket. Another thing is that whenever you open a closet or cabinet door, they are really quiet, fast and sneaky about running in there and getting trapped. Before we leave the house for several hours, we always do a "kitty count" to make sure that we know where they both are.

A little late now but a tip for others to get around that reluctance with travel boxes is to use it as a bed when young or injured. Just a couple enrichment considerations so she doesn't get too bored: vertical enrichment of some type - whether it be a cat tree or just some ramps to go up and down, and some sort of 'catio' or way to be outside without being free to roam (leash-training will also work, but it's a lot more commitment and requires a lot of positive reinforcement to get them to enjoy it, so most people just go with a catio if they can)

Its awesome to see Lil adjusting and see all of you so happy. BTW, I recommend trying out pine pellet horse stall bedding as kitty litter instead of the clay litters. Its quite a lot cheaper, only $4-$7 for a 40 lb. bag, its much, much less dusty, very absorbent, and it handles odors so much better. Its also available at feed stores, typically. It starts as hard pellets, but as soon as it gets wet, it turns fluffy. I use it in the kitty litter boxes, and also in the chicken coop.

If you read this i want you to know that lil will never be as happy of a cat indoors as she would be outdoors. How do i know? I grew up with cats all my life and at some point my cat got run over and suffered similar injuries like lil. We took her to the vet and she survived but we had to put her down after a couple of weeks because she didnt recover to a life worth living. After a while we got a new Cat and kept her indoors because we couldnt loose another cat to the road. We even built him a little coop outside in a similar way birds are held and connected it right where the cat-door was so he could go in and out to the „coop“ when he wanted. So after a year we noticed that he was despite all love given outside on the highest platform in the coop most of the time and containing him was a nightmare. One day he got out the back door but instead of running like he usually did he laid down on the sun-warmed stones in our backyard and simply enjoyed the warmth of the sun and range of our garden. Thats when we realized We were happy with him inside but for him it was like being in prison. So we let him out freely. 12 years later he is still doing his nightly patrols around the house and couldnt be a happier cat. Our other cat we got him as company after about another year because keeping cats alone is never good for them, turned out to be a full-time house cat. Despite being able to go outside she rather spends the time snuggling and watching people inside. She too is as happy as she could be . Pls let her enjoy nature. If you let her decide and maybe even build a cat-door she will be the happiest little furball you can imagine and it doesnt stop them from cuddling and keeping you company i can assure you that. All the best Lars

Litter box advice. The clay litter makes a dusty mess and tracks everywhere. I used it for years until discovering alternative litters. I recommend pine pellet litter. It doesn't clump but it's easy to clean and isn't nearly as messy. You can transition a cat to new litter by mixing it in with the clay a bit at a time and just adding her poop to the final all pellet stage. Another advantage, pine pellet horse stall filler is the same stuff as cat box litter but you can buy huge bags for a tiny fraction of the price of a small bag of cat litter.

She will be just fine inside. One of my cat survived a coyote attack. She was being carried away and my neighbor saw it while he was driving his pkup. Gunned it and hit the coyote. My neighbor saved my cat and since that day till her passing she became an indoor cat. Bit of rough going at first but adjusted fine over time.

I think her litter box shouldn’t be so close to her bed and food Cats don’t like that. Like don’t S*** where you Eat type attitude . Well especially if she was a barn car before

Hi Morgan, I was just wondering why Lil has to now live in the house, couldn't she still be a Barn cat, she still has Eight lives left. Love from the UK.

The vet told them she needs to be indoors. Due to the pelvic break and the corrections they had to do to make it heal, she can't move her back legs like she used to. She would be much more likely to get stuck in a tree somewhere and be trapped, or hurt herself badly trying to jump down from somewhere up high like she used to. If predators saw her limping at all as well, she would be a target for them to go after.

To add on to the other comment, if they lived in a more suburban area or an area with less predators, she probably would be able to return outside at least during the day, but considering the amount of large predators on/near their rural property, it would not be safe for her even during the day. They get things like bears, coyotes, mountain lions, and hawks, all which can seriously mess up a cat especially if it has limited mobility. :(

She’s not gonna be able to go into all the rooms, just most rooms, ha. You must have never had a cat.

Glad Lil' is doing so much better. Since youre worried about her getting depressive, you should every now and then switch to a toy that she can catch instead of the laser pointer, so she gets that sense of accomplishment of being a successful hunter. :) Love that kitty. Best wishes from Germany!

A shame she's never gonna recover 100% of her motricity, but the fact she's still alive nowadays is already an accomplishement in itself

Two words: Incredibly wholesome. I found this channel and I can’t stop thinking to myself “why isn’t this an actual TV or Netflix show”.

I love your videos. Just a response to your previous video. Don’t listen to the trolls who have nothing better to do than dictate how you should run your farm. Let them try it and see how easy it isn’t.

god I'm so happy I've tears in my eyes. I cried when she was first hit and have been rooting for her, I hope your allergies aren't too bad and the special diet helps.

So great to see her doing so well! You guys did an amazing job taking great care with her. She is going to do just fine. We had an outdoor kitty in MT that got hit by a car or grabbed by a hawk, not sure but he lost his arm and bounced back like a tiger. His name was Mr Freckle for the white dot on his chest. He lived for 13 amazing wonderful years traveling all over the world with us. He was the best cat ever.

Omg bless you for loving Lil barn cat!! I had a cat that Never went outside and she lived for 21 years. Gingerbread was a wonderful and happy cat. She just needs access to a bed in front of windows for cat TV.

Lil’ is very lucky to have y’all! She is moving so well. She is obviously very sweet; my old grumpy cat would have sent me to the vet if I tried to give him a bath !!!

I think Lil is adjusting just fine. She seems to enjoy the toys, is being playful on her own and with you and the lazer light. Even though she can see outdoors, she doesn't seem to be clawing at the screen window to be let out. All good signs I think. Good luck to all of you. Have a Blessed day.
