My new hobby is making sticks. Knock one out almost everyday. Hunting for them is part of the fun. Fine job on both the stick and the video. One thing I have been doing is using a satin lacquer for finishing with or without staining. I apply the lacquer with a cloth and usually 3 hand rubbed coats do the job. No sanding in between just hand rubbed. The lacquer dries very quickly. No more than 20 minutes between coats.

I enjoyed your video and my interest is more than casual as I've needed an ambulation assist since autoimmune/inflam has reared its head.

This is what I was looking for. I have been growing the walking stick cabbage and this helps me make my own stick now.

Well, that's totally new to us -- yet a terrific concept! And it's biodegradable to boot, so even the planet wins 👏

Hey good morning. I think that was pretty cool. I have some kind of kale popping up in the garden this summer. I might not be able to do a walking stick with it...although I am short 💩 & the stick would not have to be that long hihiii but if they be strong like yours I could do something with them. I think I need to make sure they grow straight-ish. You are giving me ideas here, Terry hihiii I like it. Your stick turned out real nice and I like to wood putty you made. Very good. Have a great week my Friend 👍😀👋

A suggestion: You cut off the excess material before finishing. Consider leave about 6-8" excess material at the small end before finishing; cut it off after finishing. That way you don't have to finish the stick in two steps as you show.

That makes perfect sense and I didn't think far enough ahead as I worked on this. Thanks for the great suggestion!

Hi Terry, I am fascinated by those walking sticks! They are really cool! How many do you think you’ve made over the years? Do you ever sell them?nThinking of you and hope you’re doing well. We have had so much rain here but the weather is finally starting to warm up which is fine with me. Are you planning to get outside and do any planting? I think a little bit of vitamin D would do us all good right about now. Have a great week and I’ll see you again soon. Hugs, Dolores 🥰
