Cathy, since I can’t see and don’t know eBay. My wife says when you have a pair of Almico 5 Humbuckers, can you let us know and she can get on there and get them. I can’t see well and I’ve never used eBay. Or, if you make a set we would be glad to buy them directly. Thank you! I have my Tele and a 12 string Epiphone acoustic for now. I love what yall are doing. I just want a pair of Humbuckers for my Strat. And take your time. !

Awesome job Cathy I saw Scared My Guitar Video First... Personally I love ceramic pickups for heavy metal. They have more aggressive tone.. for clean tone yes Alnico.. Theses nothing wrong with making mistakes that's how you learn. Eddie Van Halen Won a Piano competition as a kid without understanding music theory. Classical piece... He experimented & practiced & became one of the best guitarist of all time... The pickups are awesome...

I once rewound a microphone balun transformer. The mic wasn't mine and I'd looked inside it. The balun fell out and snapped off its tags. I replaced the tags with panel pins. I reeled off the wiring on to a sewing machine spool, then spooled it back, all using a model electric motor I had at the time, that I set in a jig for the spool and transformer. It was all the size of a sugar cube, with *very* thin wire. To my surprise it worked 1st time but I wouldn't want to do it again.

Crazy that the DCR on the originals were 15Kish, ceramic magnets & heavier gauge wire (40 Gauge). If it helps any as a general frame of reference for P90s, the Neck is 8.2K & Bridge 9.3K with what others claim as Almico V magnets for the Epiphone P90s on my LP Special I. No idea what the gauge wire those have. The Gibson P90s are +/-8K'from what I recall their specs as indicated. Team Scar for the save & win for this Indio teardown & rebuild. Trey sounded great as usual for the test drive & lap around the track. There's another P90 pickup product out there, Wolftone P90, that come in mean, meaner & meanest options for DCR/wind counts.

Love the sound of a good P90 pickup in a guitar. Fell in love with them when my first live band's lead guitarist played an early 70s Gibson SG Professional that had P90s in it. These sound SO much better than what came out of that guitar. Great Job!
@olenfersoi88877 ай бұрын
FYI...P90's are basically just single coil pickups, but flat & wide vs tall & thin. That raises the magnet's field around the strings. You might want to raise your regular single coil pickups to see if that gives a more P90-like tone (more output, but lower "top end" in relation of mids & bass frequencies).

When it comes to a good all-around pickup that can hang out in any genre of music, except for possibly more heavily drop-tuned metal tones, you cannot do better than a good set of soap bars or P-90s. They are one of my favorite styles of pick-up. Opinions may vary; however, they offer the perfect balance of humbucking warmth and single-coil brilliance. One of my favorite combinations for pick-up arrangements is a humbucker in the bridge and an overwound P-90 in the neck. I have found that this setup provides a versatility in tone that an HSS setup falls short of. If you want those creamy jazz and honky country lead sounds, then you need to look no further than a P-90 neck pick-up, and don't worry they can get gritty and dirty when the need arises and you boost the gain. I have played many shows covering 80s hard rock and metal using a Les Paul loaded up with a set of P-90s and they did not sound out of place. Heck Tony Iommi's signature SG is loaded with P-90s and I have never heard anyone complain about Black Sabbath's sound being thin or weak. Just saying. Great job breathing new life into those pick-ups Kathy, I might need to requisition your services for a custom set of P-90s for a build I am getting ready to start. Keep up the good work because those sounded pretty sweet.

Too bad those neodymium fridge magnets from your previous experiment were a bit too wide, they probably would’ve worked great in that build. A good set of P-90s are a thing of beauty. I’ve got some great Duncan Designed ones in a Squier Tele Custom II which are killer - other owners of that model have said they did a pickup swap on it, only to put the originals back in, they’re that good. Your pickupectomy on those cheap P90s sound very good. Would love to see Cathy do a set of Strat-sized versions of the Burns Tri-Sonics.
