Here is the continuation of the red silk Civil War dress that I was working on. In this video the dress is completed with self made trims and cover buttons. After photographing this gown, I couldn't help but notice that it looks a bit like a Dickens dress. :)

I love the color and the ruffles. It doesn’t look over done at all, which is sometimes the consensus when looking at mid-1800s gowns.

Good question! I wouldn't say that a civil war dress is a beginner dress to make, but I would highly recommend Laughing Moon Patterns. Their 1860s dress was the first civil war dress I made and they were so helpful in the instructions!

If you get a tailors ham holder you would be able to get that ham in all those tight spots better cause you’ll be able to shove the top of the ham in there.
