When I saw one of Nick Schade's wooden kayak seats I had to make one for my kayak, it's a beautiful design. I reckon it would also make a great seat for a stool or chair. One thing I meant to mention in the video but forgot, was some of the grain of the wooden pieces running in opposite directions isn't ideal. As this seat will be fibreglassed it will be stabilised and wood movement won't be an issue.
Here's a link to Nick's plans guillemot-kaya...

The book provides clear illustrations kzbin.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO diagrams that cover many of the essential topics. The projects at the end of the book are valuable for enhancing your skills and creating your own furniture. A digital platform linked to the book that could offer the plans for other woodworking projects with the cut sheets would have been a nice addition, but overall, the book is excellent.

Now you've got me thinking of making custom seats for farm tractors. There's a lot of people in my area who have show tractors and would probably love a nice custom wooden seat.
@Farm_fab
@Farm_fab 2 жыл бұрын
Neil, that seat would definitely look nice on a stool. Some time ago I bought a used counter stool from a scrap yard, and it was missing the seat. I went to another yard a few days later, and they had some bits and bobs of old tractor parts. I got the steel pan seat from that pile, and made an adapter to mount it on the stool. I plan to use it in my welding shop.

I read many of the comments and saw nothing but positive remarks and rightfully so; the seat looks wonderful. The reason I read some of the comments was to see if anyone else commented regarding the overall thickness, and/or remaining strength of the wood towards the edges. This is merely an observation, not criticism since it's not clear how the seat is fitted into the kayak which is something that may make my observation a mute point. Again, the seat itself looks wonderful; well done.

Beautiful piece. Could stand on its own as a piece of art! As an aside, I never understood the front 'hump'. I would think men would prefer a bit of space there, instead of a piece of wood trying to share the space-time continuum with the kayaker's 'package' ;-)

@RobertEchten
@RobertEchten 2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnColgan. That makes sense for a kayak seat, but the bulge shows up everywhere (bar stool, etc.). My guess is it started on saddles where the bulge would be around the shoulder blades/spine of the horse and it stayed from there as a 'feature' in 'manly' chairs, but I might be (and probably am) way off...

That is absolutely beautiful Neil. I was going to say, “It the cat’s ass, or should I say the Pask’s ass.” BUTT I wasn’t sure if the “cat’s ass” saying would be understood in different areas. Sometimes my attempt at humour falls short of even Dad Joke level. 😁
