I've been getting a little bit back into hardware beats today and decided that I'd try and put together a DAWLESS soul beat with the SP404-MK2. This is a full workflow walkthrough and not much changes from beat to beat for me. I hope you find this one fun to watch and useful too!

Id love to see another part to this. It wasnt too fast paced or complicated but really seemed like a realistic use case walk-through for those of us that get overwhelmed sometimes by every little thing the SP can do. Great stuff!

Thanks for the vídeo, you’ve got a nice and clear way of explaining things At one point you said the sample/pattern still sounded kind of choppy and there are ways to fix it. I’m struggling with this, can you tell me how you do that?
@spvidz
@spvidz 11 ай бұрын
It will usually sound ok once its quantised in the pattern mode. If its still choppy adjust the speed/pitch to make them slightly slower and fill the gaps. You could also adjust the bpm of the pattern.

One thing that I love to do is 32 chops instead of 16. That way it will stay in sync if you change the tempo and it'll still sound cool.

404mk2 can do 32 chops?
@ericvernooij2917
@ericvernooij2917 Жыл бұрын
Yes that's it. Divide a two bar loop into two one bar loops, and then divide those into 16. The first row
@ericvernooij2917
@ericvernooij2917 Жыл бұрын
Sorry, hit post before I was done. First row will be kicks, third row snares. And the second and fourth will be uphats.
@humfreee
@humfreee Жыл бұрын
The 'feel'/groove/swing of a sample typically depends on the 2nd,4th, 6th etc 16ths being played early or late. If you chop on 16ths you'll lose that.

Tough to find knobs for the mk2 , I checked your shop , but I couldn’t find any , the screen graphics are clutch , any chance you can obtain any knobs for these ? I find other knobs but I don’t think they are compatible . Rookie here by the way . I’m seeking a red yellow and green knob .

As a beatmaker and producer, don't you run into copyright infringement on sampling someone elses music? I want to release my music, so I will have to stay away from sampling other people's music. It's fine if you are just DJing a local show, but if you want to make your own music and put it on Spotify, that's a real issue.

How do you go about making sure the sample loops properly before you start chopping?
@spvidz
@spvidz Ай бұрын
You can use the start/end button and just do it by ear using the end point on the waveform. Use ROLL in the start/end screen to play the last part of the sample - it makes it way quicker to find the right loop point. Make sure the sample has the LOOP button lit too

So to make your drums sound louder you just lowered the sample volume?
@spvidz
@spvidz 11 ай бұрын
pretty much yes. It depends what head room you have. I didn't have any headroom left to make my drums louder so I had to lower the samples instead. If you have the headroom on your drums you can just turn up the volume on those instead
@muelabruno66
@muelabruno66 11 ай бұрын
@@spvidz but the drums have the same volume? you sacrifice volume on the sample and I think they're other ways to give those drums a boost... have you tried stacking drums? like 2 kicks or 2 snares? I just feel like you're hiding parts of the music to point out the drums. I've been thinking on getting a 404 and been watching your vids. Respect man!
