Dayum bro, I didn't even know it was possible to make a lathe in a home workshop. Def looking forward to your videos

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Easy to maintain and to replace without the need of the manufacturer manual. Your design is simple and very minimalist than old school bulky spindles found on commercial machines that require a lot of money to replace

Hell yea! But those are much stiffer though

Hi great video, soon to be making a lathe myself with a 10 inch 3 jaw OD 250mm , will be using a mazda 323 brake disc as the mounting plate, as its 250mm also and solid...

Zawalista robota, można się dowiedzieć skąd brałeś materiał na wrzeciono? Są to te precyzyjne rury z allegro czy sam je toczyłeś ? I jaka jest grubość ścianki wrzeciona?
@GBWM_CNC Жыл бұрын
Dzięki! Rury z alledrogo, 5mm grubości scianki fi35 na zewnątrz. Trochę musiałem je poszlifować papierem, żeby weszły w łożyska :)

nice build but from experience,steel plates will change the shape from time to time,thats why its best to use cast iron.Than its different story.Also conical bearings its a must as they take the play radial and axial.Other than that,well done💪

This is what I'll take under consideration building a second -better lathe :)

Are you sure that those grub screws will hold on to the shaft at high axial loads? I have a feeling its going to slip back when you take a cut.
@GBemblaze953 жыл бұрын
Note the shaft collars at 7:06. They will be responsible for taking the axial load. I hope those will hold everything at the right place during the cuts

when you cant machine a proper spindle and install tapered roller bearings on both ends, gotta use cavemen technology ! im not convinced by the assembly itself, putting a shaft inside 2 bearings, and welding everything together, doesnt sound like anything that would result with precision machinery, unless the shaft is made with diamond. bearing alignment is the corner stone of the lathe, the slightest offset and the only thing you can output is cones, and i pass on the chatter, in us you measure that in thousands of an inch, in metric we use 0.01 mm dial indicators, on this channel i havent seen any measuring aparatus, i also have to say that i skipped most of the videos. welding with square magnets doesnt prevent heat distortion, in fact precision machines are built and adjusted with high precision tools (levels, square frames, granite surfaces, etc), i wont even ask if this is a precision ground shaft, judging by the rest, this must be taken from a wallmart cart. anyways, cant blame the guy for trying, if i had to build one, i would probably do the same thing, since i live on an island, shipping costs makes anything ten times its original price.

Wygląda super , jakie koła pasowe montowałeś na silniku / wale wrzeciona?
@GBWM_CNC Жыл бұрын
Dzięki! Na wale wrzeciona koło pasowe 95mm średnicy a na silniku 130mm. Na paski klinowe typu B

What a job. Where did You get the pipe for the shaft? is it 1 1/4" diameter? Thanks in advance

I got it from a local supplier. It's a precision pipe, 35mm diameter.

No ładnie, pierścienie w środku pomiędzy łożyskami do kasowania luzów? Pozdrawiam z nad morza.
@GBWM_CNC2 жыл бұрын

If you're building it from scratch, why not use tapered roller bearings?
@GBWM_CNC2 жыл бұрын
I didn't have a lathe to make a shaft for roller bearings nor to make roller bearing housings. But tapered roller bearings would be definitely better.
@karansingh1154 Жыл бұрын
@@GBWM_CNC what about angular contact ball bearing?
@GBWM_CNC Жыл бұрын
@@karansingh1154 To use angular contact ball bearings there is a need to machine the shaft as well. Similar thing as with the tapered roller bearings.
@karansingh1154 Жыл бұрын
@@GBWM_CNC oh i see. By the way how are the bearings holding up? What's the chatter like?
@GBWM_CNC Жыл бұрын
@@karansingh1154 I don't use it very much but it didn't change from the time I made the lathe. Well, the chatter is visible if you'd like to take deeper cuts with more agressive feeds and speeds. But for a let's say "bench lathe" it is ok I'd say. I was able to machine with it already many parts for my machine builds (for example for my CNC conversion of a metal milling machine and the parts are ok). With some sense I'm able to machine bearing seats with it :)

Amigo porque le pones 3 chumaceras al eje y no solamente 2??
@GBWM_CNC2 жыл бұрын
Lo monté en 3 rodamientos porque estos son rodamientos de bolas normales. Todas las cargas (especialmente las axiales que son malas para este tipo de rodamientos) las llevan 3 en lugar de 2, por lo que hay menos carga por rodamiento.
