Okay why don’t more people use taffeta for fire-inspired dresses bc this is FIRE (pun intended)

This isn’t taffeta which is a finer fibre that is more tightly woven. This is a bulkier fabric with different colour fibres on the warp and weft. The fibre isn’t as smooth as for taffeta so has a tougher texture. However, as its silk it’s so soft.

@@OoiYunKai they're intended for basic alterations and repairs. You'd have to do a lot of preparation by hand - like pleating the skirt and basting it instead of feeding folds under the foot as here. You should be able to do standard seams and hems. The wire channels under the bust need a zipper foot. If you have the patience, everything can be made by hand though. At least until you save up for a full size machine. Forward, reverse and zig-zag stitching is basic and covers construction needs, even buttonholes.

This helped me figure out how to make pleats! Fork pleats are awesome

Fork pleats work great for large ones. For small ones, I use my thumbnail. It's slightly slower going, as you are sewing them as you pleat, but you pinch the fabric right in front of the foot, then fold the bottom under (so the top fold is towards you). Then just stitch it down and do the next one. :)

I slightly feel like breezy light material like chiffon would add to the movement of this piece. That and it'd be harder to make a men's garment based on the motif. Like all we get is a vest and some pants but ladies get tons more material and leeway to express the concept.
