My Grandmother had a woven copper dress. Yes, the whole dress, 20's style short dress made of fine copper thread. It looked so unique, and part of the strap was oxidized to green. I don't know what happened to that dress, but it was the most unique thing I have ever seen.

Well, scalemail, but a lot of the same principles apply, having a corset styled back would also help transfer half the weight to the waist, as well as making it easier to adjust the hips to the point that it could much easier be donned or doffed, the next step would be making it practical to sit in, with chain mail this is easy, but scalemail would probably need some adjustments in how the scales are arranged or something.

If I remember correctly, scale mail was often made with a leather backing so it didn't pinch as much. That is if a warrior didn't already wear a layer of padding anyway. Adding a thin layer of leather or cloth would probably make the dress a little more comfortable and less cold when put on.
@GrndAdmiralThrawn2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Scale mail was usually sewn directly into a liner of some sort (either leather or cloth) in order to reinforce the armor and give more surface area for the scales to rest against the body. Oddly enough, since none of these would have been worn directly on the skin anyway, she actually accidentally hit on a different type of scale armor at the very beginning called lamellar armor, in which the scales are sewn together horizontally instead of overlapping. This gave more flexibility and less weight at the cost of more solid protection.

As someone who makes maille, I am impressed with how quickly you got your dress done! A full suit of armor often takes 50-60 hours to make using either steel or aluminum rings. Someone who was experienced in chain maille could probably make something similar to your dress using only metal, but it would take a good 30-40 hours. If you ever do something similar in the future (I know, it's a crazy amount of work) I recommend using a belt to take the weight of your shoulders, or to wear padding underneath the shoulder pieces. That dress is so stunning, and you look fantastic modeling it. I think it might be interesting to see one done with wider straps to give a bit more support, and "sewn" with brass wire loops instead of thread. An inner lining could help make it more comfortable to wear, but a dress like this isn't about comfort anyway, it's about getting people's attention. This was the first thing I have seen of yours, Crescent, but it was fantastic! You obviously have a great eye for design and a gift for manifesting those designs into reality. I hope this dress makes you internet famous!

Such an adorable dress. I love how you think you can make these complicated projects in one week. Then you realize it will take you weeks, but you never give up!

That dress is so dope. The jingles that the dress make are probably like my favorite. Thanks for the laugh you're a great dressmaker.

Gorgeous dress! It gives of a vibe of "woman of Middle-Earth who wants to travel and stay protected but also look styled at the same time, and all the dwarfs and Elves hoged all the Mithrill/true silver so lets make something out of copper instead". If that makes sense.

Greetings young miss. First time seeing your channel today. I've made some maille (mostly adult sized but some for children as well) in my youth and know that it takes a lot of time and dedication, not to mention patience. I worked mostly steel, aluminum sometimes and one in grade 5 titanium in the four in one style. What you've done here is so creative and fun, I am impressed, well done!
@gsleazy19752 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you're still creating maille lol

How did she fit like 3 weeks into a 11 minute video whilst other people would have a 30 min video its insane, And she is incredibly talented

I really liked the conciseness of the video it made it super fun where I find longer crafting videos more tedious. Don't get me wrong I still watch them but with my adhd I watch them in parts like I watch a segment one day then a segment another or maybe just part of a TV show as a break. I really love unique crafts like this so I was really glad to see a more adhd friendly crafting vid It is actually why I just subscribed after one video (I just found the channel)

adding extra straps that go around the shoulders and attach to the back in a spread-out pattern might help with the weight distribution of the dress but has the chance to take away from the look which is absolutely stunning!

Aside from it being illegal to deface currency, this is an absolute beautiful dress! You are incredibly creative and talented!
@chshrkt2 жыл бұрын
It is not actually illegal to deface currency, it is only illegal if it is defaced with the intent to defraud someone into thinking it is a different (higher) denomination.

@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 Coins are money. Therefore, coins are currency. Currency is defined as something that is used as a medium of exchange. I put $0.75 in a vending machine, it gives me a bag of chips. Are you arguing that those quarters were not used as a medium of exchange?
@Eloraurora2 жыл бұрын
They have those souvenir penny-squashing machines in zoos, museums, and national parks across the country. If there were any chance of someone getting prosecuted for defacing currency, I think she's pretty far down the list. ...also I think the idea behind that law was the gold/silver standard, where clipping the edges off a dollar coin meant it no longer contained a dollar's worth of precious metal. Not super relevant in a time of fiat currency.

There are ways to balance the weight of that dress, with Hidden counter weights. And materials like gel and memory foam that could be cut into smaller circles. And attached to the pennies on the straps. Yes its not a all night dress but With counter weights. And cushion material placed in certain points. It could be. A 3 or 4 hour dress easy! And whoever did your hair , please don't ever let the. Do it again for a montage!!!!! You are beautiful!!!! And need to get that through ur head!!!!!!

@myragroenewegen54262 жыл бұрын
I love this idea. I'm trying to imagine how to make it more functional and less heavy. I feel like a good start would be lining the entire thing and allowing an un-penny-coated lining strap to divide the open back at the top to distribute the weight. The pennies look best as scale chainmail, buy, if this were lined, you could do scales for the top bust and then regular chainmail on the skirt. To mitigate uncomfortable weight after that, one could add molded padding to the shoulder straps.
@MikeA15206 Жыл бұрын
I know nothing about seeing but this video is amazing! I smiled through the whole thing. And your grandkids will know what a penny is.
@aarontraas56362 жыл бұрын
Really neat dress. I can say from my experience wearing chain mail, all of the weight goes on your shoulders, and with the thin shoulder straps, that must have been rough. If you wanted to wear it for longer, pair it with a belt; a tight belt can move some of the weight down to your torso.
