Why don't you use Mirka Deros or similar orbital sander for refining the handle?

Nice work on the forging and whatnot. The knife itself looks nice and cool but you can tell the knife itself is not something that is very well thought out or tested or iterated through. It's just a sketch someone has in their mind that came to life, and therefore as an actual kitchen tool it will likely have several compromises and issues. The neck and handle already looks like an issue as does the blades cutting profile. Some knives as soon you grab them in your hand, you can tell a lot of careful thought went into exactly the shape and proportions and not just blade I mean cutting geometry but the actual blade profile . Other knives no so much. This one is odd, with a huge amount of belly at the front but a hard stop at the back and a large flat spot before it. Maybe it's trying to do too much all at once.

turned out nice as, a lot of work. two questions, what did you do to bring out the pattern in the blade, an couldn't you raise your press so you don't have to hunch over to look ? make it easier on yourself. again, beautiful piece, enjoyed the vid.

I used ferric chloride to etch the blade then did a coffee etch to darken the 1095. I could raise my press if I really wanted to but it wouldn’t be easy and it really doesn’t bother me too much. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Can you very roughly estimate how much in energy cost (electricity, propane, natural gas) it took to make this knife? Please only include the energy cost for the gas forge, the electricity cost for the electric furnace for heat treatment, and the oven for tempering. Ignore the energy cost for space lighting and fans, etc.

I’d guess around 30 dollars for a knife like this one.

Thats very impressive.. How much do one of those knives cost ? How many hours does it take to make one ?
@darkluke634 жыл бұрын
I have a lot of hours on this one mostly because of filming I’d guess around 25. I have this one on my Etsy for 550$.
