Get a static grass layer, allows the grass to be layed standing up on end, looks more real.
@DevilTiger0002 ай бұрын
Ink from a crafts store is probably the best option to dye epoxy resin. For the diluted PVA, you can buy a cheap empty spray bottle and use that to spread it on your table, so you can use it to spray on your grass without risking disturbing it with a brush. Geek Gaming Scenics, even if the channel is dead, has some really good tutorials for wargaming terrain that always felt very achievable. And I think while the channel is dead, the store (located in UK) is still active. As others recommended, a heated cutting wire is great for this, can also let you cut hills that you can glue in your tiles to add relief. You can cut holes with it, but it's a bit awkward.

Carl I have no knowledge of WH40k but I love this kind of content anyway. One of my favourite Lotus Eater segments as well was you saying "we need a whitepill" and giving us essentially a battle report (i think they're called in WH) of some battles you did with your son.. Hopefully more wholesome whitepill stuff is in the works. Also I dunno if you've tried it and it didn't work, but investing in a dremel (or similar unbranded tool, but dremel are really good and reasonable priced) might be worth the time saving. I've never used one on polystyrene but I imagine some of the attachments you can get would make very short work of that lake in a way the butter knife doesn't.

A blowtorch is much faster and more realistic. Plus it seals the foam.

One of these days I need to get off my dead ass and get back to making scenery again. And also paint my hordes of blueberries, Catachans, and huge pile of Heresy stuff I was suddenly compelled to amass last Christmas. Scenery is fairly easy to make pretty with not a ton of added effort. And a well adorned battlefield is incredibly satisfying.

The eldar models look great! They do go well with the terrain.

This was a good step-by-step instruction for making a terrain tile, bookmarking it for a time when I may do similar terrain projects :D Have you thought about making more videos on how one can make terrain for 40k, 30k, Fantasy and other miniature games Carl? I have a hunch you could do an excellent (mini-)series of videos about that along with painting tips ;)

Vallejo makes a clear water effect that comes in a 200ml bottle. You would have been able to see the bottom of the lake.

Looks great. For cutting, look up Styrofoam cutting tools. You can get some that basically look like hoops of wire. That should make cutting out a centre easier.

I dont know, Carl. Wont the blood just be an added, immersive aesthetic to your Warhammer board?
@abrakadabra51342 ай бұрын
Try a spoon knife or hook knife to take out material. If you can do it outside, to avoid fumes, you could try a hot knife. This might make the cuts a bit too smooth so you will lose some of the effect maybe.

I don’t need play models because my day to day experience looks like Hoth outside for half the year. Everything’s frosted over, 90% humidity with freezing fog, -20°C and then even worse with the windchill…
@Reach4God12 ай бұрын
Butane torch would get you a lake hole in ~30s. Just gotta do it outside. It would also pop the resin bubbles without burning you.
@DJRockford832 ай бұрын
A heat gun after that initial digging effort would also do the same

Play sand, super fine and available in smaller bags 😂 alternatively fetch a tub to the beach once a year 😉 Also using expensive mini paint instead of craft paint 😱 PS is that flock or static grass? There's quite a big difference

I used to run a LGS. You can spray spray paint onto polystyrene which causes it to melt. It’s very effective. Try it on a small piece, see what you think

No, drybrushing is where you take most of the paint off the brush and then heavily apply it to the subject. Wet brushing is where you keep most of the paint on the brush and lightly apply it.
