Hey Jenny, I'm so sorry about your experience. I'm sure many other comments echo this sentiment, but having a dog live in your home with you is truly the best thing you can do for mental health, for safety, and for emotional support. Although there is a lot of responsibility that comes with being a pet owner as well, I think the benefits outweigh those. My dachshund has alerted me several times in the middle of the night to sounds I didn't even hear! Thankfully it was all good (apartment neighbors), but their senses are unmatched and so beneficial. It's also so smart to rehearse those scenarios in your head prior to an actual event occurring. Wishing you the best, and I'm glad you are safe.

I live half the time alone when my kids are with their Dad so I know how it feels to live alone. I have a wooden baseball bat next to my bed and more importantly, I have a little dog that will alert me to anything happening. She has a really loud bark and is always on patrol. I really think a dog will make you feel better. Try not to feel too afraid, I've been in LA for 30 years and have been safe. Plan something fun for this weekend.

This fear is so real for us as women and I feel like with all of the news and documentaries coming out it makes me even more paranoid. My partner literally only locks his doors because of my fear with this. Living alone or with someone it is so difficult to overcome the anxieties. I am so glad that you are safe and I really hope the person experiencing the breakdown has support in his life and is able to find the healing he needs. ❤ I hope that you find comfort after experiencing this and find little things that give you the sense of safety you deserve, much love from Arizona!

"the news and documentaries coming out it makes me even more paranoid." YES. I'm a woman who works in violent rime, and I strongly believe society tries to make women afraid of this shit. Afraid of strangers, afraid of doing things alone, afraid to leave the house... when really the men who are most likely to inflict harm on us are the men we love and who claim to love us. Our fathers, boyfriends, friends, husbands...

Jenny, that is terrifying. I'm sorry you went through that but so relieved it all turned out okay thankfully. I've been doing jiujitsu for almost 8 years now, never with the intention of ever using it in real life, but for the knowledge and confidence it has instilled in my ability as a person, as a woman. There are so many jiujitsu gyms in LA, I would highly recommend getting into it. It's a great way to exercise, but ultimately it has made me so much more confident in ME and my ability to protect myself or get away in a worst case scenario. Stay safe

I think your plan is a great plan. It's so nice that other people (men especially) have been given the confidence for confrontation but no matter who you are it has the potential to go so wrong.

I am so so so sorry you had to experience what you did. I had the very same thing happen to me but it was at my house. The cops came quickly and what i think ended up happening was that i think the person was trying to get into the wrong house. Anyway we ended up getting a dog (pittie, boarder collie mix) the sweetest 60lb pup but also has the meanest bark and is very protective of our house/lets people know his presence strangers who ring the doorbell or bring packages. He would definitely attack anyone that intruded our house. Having a dog makes me feel so so safe. I think having a pup maybe would make you feel safe as well?

Had a man climb up to my window and had his full body pressed against the bars peeping on me one night and it was freaking terrifying. For weeks I was afraid he was going to break into my apartment. Thankfully I had bars on my windows but I’ll never forget. Take care of you, be gentle on yourself and hope you find something fun to do as a distraction! ❤

So scary :( I’m glad you’re ok, it hurts to hear this happened to you. I lived in a spot with two other girls and like a week before I moved in someone broke into the apt via a window on the fire escape. It really can happen to anybody, living alone or not and nothing can really prepare you for that situation. I hope you’re feeling a little bit better day by day

I respect you so much for sharing this and talking about this. This is a real thing that women may face, whether living alone or when their partner is away. We need to talk about this more to balance the over glamorization/romanticisation of life on social media. Thank you. It will take time to get over this, maybe moving will help? and therapy for sure

Totally get it - life as a woman is so HARD. Sorry if someone’s doesn’t want to hear this. living in a constant vigilant state is exhausting. Yet is all that we got atm. sucks. Sorry you had to go through that, and happy it turned out to be ok - still traumatic tho. ❤ it will take some time

Hi Jenny, I’m so happy your okay and I appreciate you sharing all sides of living alone. It’s important to talk about. I felt like I could relate a lot to the feeling of being frustrated sometimes that yes I’m lucky to be able to live alone but ultimately it’s not my goal and would be nice to have somebody especially in these very real and scary situations. I’m in the same boat of grappling with that and finding ways to feel safe and secure inside and out. It’s been a learning curve and maybe I’ll be better for it in the long run learning how to deal with these types of situations on my own. But in the mean time it’s good to know there’s other ppl who go through it! I hope you have a better week and that it is full of more sweetness ❤

As a child I experienced a attempt to break in, thank god my dad was an alcoholic at the time and was awake. And screamed when he saw a gloved hand at the window. But that fear always fucked my sleep up once I lived on my own. Since moving in with my boyfriend, who has two dogs I’ve slept like a baby 😂 so can conquer that having gorgeous dogs around really helped me. They are a massive commitment though especially when you want to travel. So really important to be really sure your ready. So sad you went though this and for the experiences in comments too. Sending love to all who have anxiety and traumas from break ins ❤❤❤❤❤

thank you for sharing, im sorry this happened to you, unfortunatly nothing new, specially the feeling of unsecurity in us women. I think a dog would be a great pal to have by your side, it would not only help you feel safer, but give you tons of love. Also i know you love animals so maybe this, as ugly as it was, was a sign for you to go adopt a little doggie and enjoy some walks, time and love with him in LA . BTW I quitted social media some time ago but you're one of the few ones I still watch here on youtube, I relate so much with your experiences & energy. If you ever come by to Madrid, I can show you around / give you tips :) I'm sending you looots of love.

Having a dog helped’me so so much feeling secure emotionnally ans physicall, dealing with paranoïa (someone came into my House few years ago and didnt heard). Now i know that my shetland sheepdog Will always alert and bark. When he doesnt do anything im not gettîng into paranoid and insecure stairs. Wish you this and all thé love around.

Great one! I really think I understand your fear and concern. I live by myself, but with my landlords in the same building. We also had some break ins during Christmas. And even though I curse(d) living here so often, I am starting to realize that a) it Is good and helpful to not live completely alone, so one can watch out for each other, but leading to b) which is even more important; starting to make connections with the people who are There, in your environment... Your neighbors... As you so fittingly said in one of your last videos " easy for me, hard for you (vice versa)" I also understand how hard it is to approach people, even or .... especially in one's own neighbourhood sometimes, hehe. And even, if they seem to have mental health issues. Just being gentle to each other and willing to understand one another. I'm working on that myself, but wanna get along truthfully. Love you, and sending you much peace and confidence, that "This, too, shall pass" (: 🌿❤

thank you for sharing, its really important because many people do not think about what they should do in this situation / think that these things may never happen- they might never happen but they can! also opening the window and screaming/screaming for help will also put anyone off thats trying to get in! don't worry what time it is, also try to have at least one neighbour's phone number, you could visit them and say what happened or if you feel unsafe and would like to mutually be a point of contact. Another tip is pushing furniture up against the door of the room you're in , even if you have a lock or not - it could help you bide time. im wondering if keeping mase or something like that in a few locations around the house would also be helpful. I wish you feel calmer and safer soon

Glad you are safe hope you start feeling better soon. I know you don’t want to rely on a dog, but as a single woman sometimes a dog is a great deterrent for creeps on the street or break ins, especially bigger breeds or stereotypically scary breeds. My cousin is small and has has d multiple scares with big men following her nothing has happened thank goodness but she was stressed more often than not. Now she has an American boxer and let me tell you she can walk nyc streets at any time and feels safe with her best pal

I’m living alone in SF and totally feel your fears of living alone. I get random people buzzing my door in the middle of the night. It never really scared me (I’ve lived there for 10 years) until recently and it has increased my anxiety/depression so much. I’m heading back to SoCal to be in a safer environment later this year and to not live alone… being closer to family definitely makes me feel safer!
