Thank you for sharing. Very interesting to watch you cut your own beers using your home made gear cutters. Well done. 👏👏👍😀

May I ask you a question about gears? So with straight cut gears, the disadvantages are noise and robustness (because only one set of teeth are engaged at any one time.) Helical gears are quieter because of their smooth engagement, and more durable because multiple teeth are engaged at all times, however they are less efficient because they produce axial load. Now with double helical, or herringbone gears, they have the smooth engagement of multiple teeth that helical gears have, but they don't produce axial load. My question is, other than the difficulty of manufacturing, what are the disadvantages of herringbone gears? How does their efficiency compare to straight cut gears?

I don’t think there are too many disadvantages beyond the complexity to design and manufacture. Herringbone gears do tend to be used more or less always in larger applications, e.g. marine gearboxes and similar. Quietness and smoother torque.

Hi Friend! Great video and I like that you explain what and why you do specific things! Did you happen to finish the velomobile project? I am highly interested in that series as I don't see many velomobiles where I am at in the United States.

Hi, thank you. I finished the prototype which was a pertially successful proof of concept and I am slowly working an an improved design for a second version.

@@MetalMachineShop That's awesome! I look forward to seeing it in the future (if you choose to share that is haha!)
