Also, to grind away a lot of material from the inside before sanding, I would recommend getting a round metal filer used for sharpening chainsaw chains, and chuck it to a drill press, or make a rod that you could attach sand paper sheets, it’s cheaper then the dremil parts

Este Glez Best recommendation ever. I spent literally 3 hours and a lot of dremel parts and I didn't reach the desired width. Then I bought a round metal abrasive thing, and finished got 3 rings in 1 hour.

Could you use a drill bit to round out the middle?
@highanddryful
@highanddryful 11 ай бұрын
@@markfinster1256no, drill bit too slow and it will tend to wander and drift. Rather use a die grinder as it has a much higher rpm so it won't want to drift and kick back. Pop a carbide up cut bit in the die grinder and you will hog out the hex thread in no time and create a lovely smooth inner diameter.

I made my own hex ring as i call it. I actually used a hand file for the entire outside and a round hand file on the inside. Both were about 7 or 8 dollars plus my hex nut was a dollar. Also mine was a weird shape and required a lot of filing on something most hexnuts dont have and thats a round second half. It took me 8 hours overall and i suggest using brass as its a bit softer... or zinc. Im working on a zinc ring now.

Love the more basic rings! Could you try making one from micarta? I know that it's possible to make some yourself from paper and resin, so it would be a cool personal material to work with, and it shouldn't be as hard to sand down as metals are.

I suggested this a long time ago but I saw you did it with the Superconductor ring. You should leave a Damascus ring in etch for 6-7 hours. Then fill the voids with glow powder. Like red. Use the instacure super thin CA glue to get in all the gaps.

I notice a lot of people that comment say the rings don't look good during the whole process but look amazing when its finished. I hate that as an artist, people seeing my work before it's done for that reason. You really do make incredible rings I've been binge watching since last night I'm really glad I found this challenge. Do you take orders as well I'm really interested in having you make a ring for someone that's really special to me.

What would also be cool and something that could probably done with the same tools is to take this ring and mill out a shape (rectangle, circle, a letter, etc) in the flat part. Then inlay some glow powder and other materials just like you do with the other rings.

My grandfather was born in 1918 during our last pandemic, sadly he lost his mother shortly after he was born due to the influenza. Anyways, he made his wedding ring out of a hex but like the one you did. He passed away at the age of 91 and my dad now wears his ring. I have always wanted one like it and plan to finally try to make me one. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hey dude, I don't know much about machinery and how to use them and stuff, but I need some help. I tried making one of these rings and I don't have a dremmel thingy (idk what's it called) so I made a makeshift dremmel thingy using a drill and then poked the drill thing into a piece of styrofoam, I cut out into a small circle, then taped and glued it so it doesn't fly off and then I glued sandpaper on the styrofoam. I was "able" to smoothen the inside of the ring. So can I shape the outside of the hexnut just like you did with my makeshift dremmel thing?😂
