Making a Jurassic Park Barbasol Cryocan from a total scam product

We didn't expect great quality for $35, but we expected it to at least say "Barbasol" on it. I'm making the best out of it and with a few little upgrades this can will look as good as if it were in the film itself.

Great work! You have to figure that the company selling it probably isn't legally allowed to sell it branded "Barbasol" or they could get their product removed and sued. Thankfully the update seemed pretty easy for a crafty person.

Nice fix 👍🏻 With the vinyl if you just fold back the first inch of backing paper down the side it’s easier to line it up as it’s not all sticky. Once you’ve got it lined up stick down the first bit and then grab the folded back bit and pull it out from underneath and slowly work around the can. If you’re working on long edges you can use masking tape to hold the vinyl against the edge square 👍🏻

It’s a scam that they were selling Barbasol in the photos and ads, and a different product arrived. I agree good starter prop for the price

100% it's a scam. It's a common drop shipping scam. • Cheap product from China • Create misleading ads that embellish the quality and capabilities of the product • Sell the product through online stores at a highly inflated price Scammers will just make stuff up and lie. For this product there's been at least 1 advertisement that stated "I am the only artist licensed to create jurassic park dino dna cryocan."

Awesome upgrade, and the hack with the cardboard tube to catch the white overspray is brilliant. The only thing I'd think about adding (and it's a minor thing !) is to put a bit of eggshell or satin varnish on the bottom ring of the base so it looks more like brushed steel rather than chrome.

After watching your video, I went into my bathroom and looked in a bottom drawer and I found an actual 90s can of barbasol. Unfortunately it is the menthol version which had a blue and green can, rather than the blue and red version.

A long time ago I renovated a house I had in San Francisco. Pink tile gets old pretty quick so I enameled the walls, retiled the floor and enameled the pink tub. I did test tiles before I sprayed the walls to see how durable it would be. I put primer on one, primer and a cover coat on the next, scuffed the tile surface and primed it then scuffed and primed and enameled the next. I think I even acid etched one. I let all of them dry for a week. I was pretty surprised that I could scratch the enamel and primer off all of them with my fingenail except for the one that I only used enamel on bare smooth tile. Made no sense at all.

That label differs from screen accurate in a number of ways but no one ever gets it right, not even the people selling the licensed prop replica. Barbasol was owned by Pfizer in the 90s. Your label has the current owner Perio, Inc. The Pfizer text should run underneath the barcode. This can been seen on the prop if you freeze frame when Dodgson is unscrewing the can for Nedry. Fantastic video and excellent upgrade! Also that Akira and BTTF mashup shirt is dope.

You did a great job bringing that into check. It was only a scam if the seller represented it with an actual Barbasol label. No one in their right mind would sell a product with someone else's registered trademark. That's illegal and a lawsuit waiting to happen. Circle-R isn't just there for fun. But I like what you did there.

I would imagine the center cylinder “could” be replaced with a pressurized cylinder, akin to a co2 cartridge, fill it with gas and a little shaving cream and have a little 2 way valve that the cap connects to. This way it can dispense a little shaving cream to demonstrate it’s a “real” product. The base would hypothetically be the source of the cryogenic liquid.

I am sure (although I do not have proof of this) the movie prop was actually two cans: a real can with shaving cream and a fake can with the criovials. The magic of post production made it seem like it was the same. The same way the locket in the movie "The Illusionist" was actually two lockets - the oblong one and the heart-shaped one.

It's funny that they went so far to get the shape and functionality correct, and then decided the design would be just a bridge too far. Probably trademark problems. Great job on this!

I WANT a version of this BUT the little samples would instead be 510 cartridges and the bottom a battery and when you close it you can "hit" the top from the nossle and pull from ALL the carts at once...

Yes! However, there’s not enough room with this prop to do so, so id have to mess with the prop more. In that case I’d probably print and replace the entire mechanism so it would be uniformed

No I don’t sell them, I make them just for myself and share my journey here. And it would have been much easier to put them on before, but the space was too tight, they would have been pushed off as I squeezed them through the holes

Those are real cryogenic vials - I work in a lab and we have them. If you screw the cap well, they should not dry out.
