Really nice craftsmanship. Good work. Here a little advice on video production. Hope this helps and good luck with the channel. 1. Remember where the camera is centered. Sometimes you go out of frame and we can't see what you are doing. Pullback on the camera a little and mark the area with some tape to know where the frame ends. 2. Do not place camera on the table when working. It jumps and goes out of focus when you hit. Place a tripods next to table pointing down so vibrations are not a factor. 3. Sometimes you are out of focus. Most hand held video cameras focus at 6 to 8 feet so keep that in mind. If you want your face AND hands in focus, 8:10, they need to be in the same focal point. Have the camera focused on your face and hold your hand near your face when showing the work.

I like the way you made a small patch to cover the rivet on the inside of the sheath to protect the knife from scratches. I asked another KZbinr wasn't he worried about scratches, he replied, nope never had that problem. Nice editing down, I didn't have to fast forward. You might need a bigger hammer. lol I know its a Mallet. Liked Subscribed. nice work !

Jacob999999999W For dyes I used fiebings oil die (dark brown) and for finishes I used a boot oil on the outside and fiebings tan coat on the inside. I also used snow seal on the outside (that's when I was heating with the hair dryer)I also used just plain water to burnish the edges.

I have so many questions for you but it wouldn't be fair to ask them here. Well, one maybe. I saw you drill rather than punch the holes for the stitching/lacing. Smart idea. I only saw you pull two heavy cords threw, tie them off then flame them. With that cord you used a needle. What about the rest that appear to have been done with white stitching? It didn't look like it was done by machine but (maybe I missed it) I don't think you touched on how you stitched the rest of the sheath? Did you use a saddle making awl to stitch it up? If doing it by hand that's what I would have done. You did a good job, this is a nice, strong looking sheath.

rickd248, Thanks. Sometimes I drill the stitch holes instead of punching but I have done both before. For thicker chunks like this drilling can be faster. Also the entire sheath was hand stitched with a saddle stich. The area that looked white you are referring to was probably where I marked the leather to recess the stitching and help prevent wear. Because I cut those lines after dyeing it went back to the natural colour and had to be re dyed. I just cut most of the stitching process out because it's boring to do and even worse to watch.

Pasquale Franze, you can! there is lots of tutorials one the internet. the tools can be pricey but you don't have to buy everything right off the bat. pick a project do your research and find a leatherworking shop then just pick up the tools you need for that project. keep doing that and before you know it you'll have a whole set

So I've been real interested in making a sheath like this but I lm a bit concerned on how the knife will stay in the sheath with out a strap or something holding it in. Do you just make the sheath so tight that it stays in on its own without a strap? If so what keeps the leather from wearing in overtime and making the fit to loose? Thanks for any advice! I'm not new to knife making but I'm very new to making sheaths and leather working in general.

Hi! Yes I just undersized the welt a bit so that it was very tight. When I first made it it was tight enough it would not shake out. After time though it did become looser, not to the point I would worry about it falling out in a horizontal position but it could shake out for sure. I have experimented with a kydex and leather combo which seems to work very well, that’s what I would recommend for a knife you regularly carry and is what I have done with my edc which is the same style of sheath as this but with the kydex core.

I've watched that Jurassic park movie a few times just trying to figure the sheath out and with all the running, jumping, and sliding around that Owen Grady does in that movie and the knife seems to just stay locked in some how. I can't make them tight enough lol

@@Barncat01 Kydex is not needed if you know how to work beeswax into a leather sheath. I’d recommend a 60-70% beeswax to 30-40% neatsfoot oil mixture as a starting point until you learn how to make your own proprietary beeswax treatment. Melt the beeswax in a pot or tray big enough to fit your sheath and add in the neatsfoot oil as the beeswax melts. Mix the two well and then dip the sheath in until you see a slight color change. It will darken the leather a bit. When you pull out the sheath. It will have some wax residue on it. At this point you want to put the sheath into an oven at around 150 degrees and leave it in there until you see the excess wax has dripped off. You need to make sure the leather never passes 180 degrees in temp or you’ll risk damaging the fibers. At this stage. You’ll want to insert your knife and mould the sheath really well to the shape of the knife and leave it to dry with the knife still in the sheath. When all is said and done. You’ll have a product just as secure as kydex without all of the cons that kydex presents. This process will last you many many years of hard use and will only require some slight maintenance until it’s time to give the sheath another dip. Hope this helps.

Kylejom I was just messing around with it and I can actually put part of it thru the two loops in the back of my outdoorsman pants and it works fairly well but the heavier bottom part of the sheath kinda weighs down a little so I think I'll try paracord wrapped around my belt. ive wanted to wear the knife horizontally for a while and didn't even notice the Jurassic world thing so it doesn't have to look as cool as that although it does look pretty Damn cool and urs looks just like it. thanks for the reply!!!

If you want me to make one I suppose I could but just know I'm not claiming it to be a replica and I know for sure it's not perfectly accurate.

Jim T i don’t stain any of the sheaths i do all the way. This is because it makes the leather hard and theres no point to doing it all. Wasted product, and like kyle said id rather have the oils in the leather keeping my blade from rusting, or staining the blade.
