This is a great tool for the knife maker and is used to hollow out the handles on hidden tang knives. There are easier ways to make something like this, but sometimes it the process of building a quality handmade tool that means as much as having that tool.

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

I'll have to say, I agree 100%! Nothing beats the satisfaction I get from making anything useful myself from canned veggies from my own garden, cider made from apples I picked from trees around town, a lamp, a table oh, and of course a knife and the tools to making one much easier and efficient. Thanks man!

Oooo, thats nice. I will have to make one. I have a spool of 3/4 inch x 8 tpi bandsaw blade that could be stacked to get different widths of kerf. Since its handwork, the stacked blades could be superglued together.

Thank you, I like your video. Where I am tools are very expensive and not good quality, so we do make them or work with what we have. You have shown the reality of doing good hard work, that we enjoy with satisfaction of doing it with what we have and ingenuity. Thank you and have a nice day.

Nice execution. I think you may find though that the cutting teeth are too aggressive. Maybe more, tighter and shallower teeth might make the tool easier to control, and give a cleaner cut.

Can you make (or have you already made) a video discussing the tools that you have that you'd consider to be vital or extremely helpful to your knife making? I saw your video going through your garage setup, but I'd love to see the tools that you'd recommend and have had good experiences with! Looking into starting to get into this as well, thanks to the inspiration from these videos! You make great content, and can't wait to see more of them.

I wonder what more positive rake would do. That angle that you guestimated isn't all that important as the rake is I would say. Your rake is now given only by the radius that you put in there with the 1/2 round file. I think that more positiv rake would give you geometry that requires less feed pressure (but I'm not really shure if it wouldn't "self feed too much). Very nice video Jeremy!

At 14:47 would not a broach with forward faced teeth be preferable since the cut would reach the bottom of the hole . This is merely a question , not a criticism .
