sweet. It's really very simple to work with. Even things like lighter holders, magazine holders (if you're into guns)(I should say, "assault" guns) they are very easy. And if you make a mistake, often you can just heat it with a heat gun and fix it. Cheers!

I use a book press for my kydex without the foam glued in. You also can get more definition by warming the blade and foam before forming. Wet sand the edges working up in grit. ( Learned both from Phillyedc's channel) also heating the pad takes the impression out, I can do multiple sheaths back to back. I use foam seat pads for my press and it works well just watch ones with lettering on them the letters will melt on to very hot kydex. Nice video as always

13:35 instead of the third piece you could add a .2" block of wood (or however thick needed) to the knife blade with tape so you just have 2 pieces. provides additional clearance for the screw. Saves you material and fewer points of failure... just a thought.

Thank you very much for sharing the video. I was looking for where to see the eyelets placed in the kydex up close; but in your video I have also been wanting. However, it is the best place where it has been explained. Maybe we complain about the length of the videos, but I think that occasionally a video of this length is very necessary. Thanks again for sharing and saying that I have been subscribed to your channel for a long time. But it is a real hassle, having to use the google translator to write a simple comment like this. Thanks for your informative videos. Your bit is a standard HSS Brad Point bit, which is the best bit for all wood drilling. Outer bit points cut a clean perimeter before the bit drills the hole. Have you considered adding a simple stand-off block of wood or aluminum to your knife with double stick tape before forming Kydex, to allow you customized locations for adding Chicago bolts, for attachment of belt clips instead of your current standoff? Look at clip mounting of just about any Kydex pistol holster and you will see it. Very clean.

I just had a thought. If the inner side of the sheath was longer, the tactical mount could be behind the handle instead of the blade. Therefore it would sit lower from the waist and slimmer to the body since you dont have to make that spacer. I think it would be a more comfortable reach, you would even have a protected side to minimize the risk of cutting yourself when reaching for the knife. And you protect the blade from scratches as well. But that mount you did there maybe was for a legmount? I just found your videos. loving them! Im not far away from trying to make a knife myself. So inspiring. Thanks! :-)

@Simplelittlelife8 жыл бұрын
ah I've never tried that. Kinda like drywall. Thanks!
@josephrector87358 жыл бұрын
+Simple Little Life yeah that's how I did mine just sat the straight edge down and scored it then used the first one to line up and score the next one...ended up screwing it up pushed so hard the eyelet popped through...apparantly you DON'T use full strength on the Arbor press
@Simplelittlelife8 жыл бұрын
wow yeah. I suppose an arbor press would do it Especially when the smaller ones are even listed as 1 ton. This little dinky press I have isn't that dangerous. I have to really crank on it to get a full crimp.
@josephrector87358 жыл бұрын
+Simple Little Life yeah it litterally pressed the crimp though to the opposite side leaving a bur, tried to drill it out and ending up melting the kydex into a whole too big to replace the eyelet...:(

Awesome vid on how to work kydex. As a UK viewer where even carrying a fountain pen in public without cause is considered ‘carrying an offensive weapon’ and our police have a ‘stick’ as standard defence. A police officer wanting and carrying specialist knives as a casual add on to their gear is pretty cool to be honest.

If you warm up the foam and what ever object you are pressing with a heat gun you will get much higher definition in the Kydex, not so important with knives but looks really nice on handguns.

I should have mentioned that, whoops. I usually have it set to 300°F, but it is something that you have to watch. At 300 it will get too hot but it’s a decent heat that it won’t take too long to become pliable. But seriously, I stand in front of the oven and wait. I never do anything else while waiting for it to heat up. How that helps 👍

I have a quick question why does everyone use the little metal eyelets, instead of drilling tonnes of small holes and using thick string similar to what is used when working leather? I'm just asking as I wanted to make a sheath but wanted to do it with string.
@NM-wd7kx8 жыл бұрын
I reckon it's because kydex could wear through the cord whereas leather will form around it.
@aaronhokanson67187 жыл бұрын
I made a Kydex knife sheath using stitching techniques I used 10 mil waxed cord and a saddle Stitch. It only took me about a half an hour to apply the cord. It's absolutely not going to last. I'm going to have to get a new cord.
@steven39156 жыл бұрын
Think the ideal thing would be to use eyelets and then wrap the string through the eyelets. If you only used string there would be a chance the the kydex moving around and it not making a very good seal. The eyelets prevent it from moving around.
@josesifuentes25924 жыл бұрын
Says he doesn’t like making them then proceeds to make a bad ass sheath ... awesome work lol
@apf143788 жыл бұрын
Just a couple of ideas for just before closing the kydex press: 1. Putting some little tube in the point of the knife so you get a water drain hole in the tip. 2. Putting some aluminum piece in the base of the knife so you get room to do some fixing without the need to make an aditional part to put the straps or whatever.

How to keep a knife from rusting; Turtle wax and a cotton wheel. You polish the blade with the wheel and as it heats up the turtle wax actually penetrates the steel. Do this about five times each time dipping the hot knife into the turtle wax. It creates a great shine that looks almost like stainless steel. I first learned this with a rusty 16 penny nail. With lo thing but a wire wheel to clean up the rust and a cotton wheel and turtle wax like you use on cars, it cleaned up and never again had any rust. I needed the nail for a punch at my work bench. I had it for many years.

Do you need insulation in a container in the winter time or does it work with a heater container size 20 foot x 2.5 meters
@Simplelittlelife8 жыл бұрын
I don't have any insulation in the container. I use a wood burning stove and one advantage of no insulation is that the metal being the stove gets quite warm and that warm spreads through the surrounding metal. Then you have all that metal that radiate nice heat and it works quite well. My seacan is a 40' one that is 9' high. in -20°C it is nice and warm in about an hour. Cheers!
