It looks awesome and I know it's entirely for appearance. However, I would have eased all those sharp edges to keep them from being stress risers for the inevitable time when someone DOES hit something with it or drops it or whatever.

A round handle is fine for a bat or a club but not for a weapon that needs to be clocked a specific way. I would suggest gluing leather strips lengthwise along the front and back of the handle to make it oblong and then wrapping the whole thing.

Question for the machinists, why use a surfacing grinder to square up the stock rather than the mill?
@koalabro6118
@koalabro6118 2 жыл бұрын
Asked my pops - who has been a Machinist for as long as I've known him - and he said that the big thing about surface grinders is that they are *high* precision. Mills are high precision (precision within a thousandth of an inch (0.001 of an inch)), but surface grinders are comically so (precision within a micron (1/26,000 of an inch)). They are also incredibly slow, if used properly. Dude here is taking a larger depth of cut than he should, and has a higher stepover than he should, as is evidenced by his surface finish. Most likely, this dude doesn't have a mill, and is merely using what he has available to him.

Nice work as always. Really love that etching technique. I'm going to have to give that a try. I wasn't sure why you didn't do your surfacing on the mill with a fly-cutter. But then I walked it through in my head and realized I had no idea how to secure the workpiece.

Well what about that! We have seen Thor's hammer in theory, now we have Koss' Hammer live & in living color! Beautiful work! P.S. The Hammer looks great as is, but may I suggest adding leather to the handle for esthetics & grip, along with a length of leather for a "wristlet" to give it a "battle hammer" look....
