I am a full-time Mastersmith knifemaker, and I love my job! I specialize in forged fixed blade knives and also make many other types of beautiful knives.
In March of 2007, I went to the W.F. Moran School of Bladesmithing in Old Washington, Arkansas where I took a two week class on Intro to Bladesmithing under ABS Mastersmiths Bert Gaston and Greg Neely. This is where I learned how to make a blade that would pass the ABS Journeyman Smith Performance Test, after that I took a class on Handles and Guards under ABS Mastersmith Jim Walker where I learned how to make handles out of stag, exotic woods and many other materials.
In June, 2011 I received my Mastersmith Stamp at the Atlanta BLADE Show. Now that I have been granted my MS certification I have a desire to expand my field and continue learning and teaching what I learn, God has given me all the opportunities and teachers that I’ve had and I thank Him for giving me the ability to do something I love.
Follow me on this journey!
Thanks for watching
Enjoy!

Hey guys! We have a launch date for the course we are going to make. We are shooting for July 1st. We want you to be apart of it. So here is my question I have for you that will really help us out. What most frustrates you with knife making? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks

Hand sanding i guess. I dont know if im just inexperienced.. but it takes days of hand sanding, just going from 120 to 400 grit.. Sandpaper is just dull after 2 passes.. wtf. Any recommendations?

Fit and finish and also the whole “you’re so stupid you don’t know what you don’t know” parts of knife making I know that doesn’t narrow it down but that’s kinda the conundrum ain’t it

I've only made knifes out of sheet metal due to living in the suburbs in Missouri and I don't want to get complaints from our neighbors due to loud hammering. Although me and a friend are making a forge and he lives up in Branson away from a lot of people, so hopefully I can start some forging soon. I can't wait 😁. I also make rings 👍

I did the youtube muratic acid to feric acid with steel wool time and hydrogen peroxide. It worked... but i think some of the acid was still not completely transfered over. In the end I bought some feric LOL. I think a good vid on differnt acids and what effects would do well!

Hey Ian Good question We use Nescafé Clasico dark roast 7 ounce instant coffee all of it poured in with 1/2 gallon water. We etch room temp, but when we first pour the coffee into the water we use warm water to make sure that it mixes well. Team Royer

@KyleRoyerKnives Just so you know that Ferric Chloride is made from Chlorine and either Iron Shavings Rusted Nails or Forge Scale... I think about 1 part Iron Oxide to 50 parts Chlorine (or is it 20oz of Iron Oxide to 2 gallons of Chlorine and however much water you cut it with)
