Making a Metal Peacock From Scrap!!

I was asked to Make a scrap metal sculpture for Rob at Xtreme plasma to take along to shows and it was up to me what I made!!
I decided on a pillar with a peacock on top, created from a mixture of scrap and new metal.
Using my ‪@xtremeplasma‬ table I first created a pillar in Part one now in this part (part 2) I will be using it in a number of ways to create the peacock and its tail.
I use a few different processes in this video for joining the metal it is all Mig welded or bolted with hidden bolts, I love to apply heat to my sculptures to really bring them to life and add some contrasting colour, I also welded some pieces of copper to the stainless steel spoons to add even more contrast.
I like to show the process of how my mind works when creating something so you get to see the sculpture evolve along with the plan of how I'm going to do it!

Yeah, people are always surprised when they see it. It's never going to be the strongest weld but as long as its things like this and nothing that needs to hold any weight then it's fine... And looks awesome too.

Absolutely loved it... I am a steel artist from Australia and happy I came across your channel. My recent work is similar to your style so interesting to compare techniques. I mig with .08 wire and curious to know if you have tried .06? I havnt migged copper to steel yet.... I didn't realise it was possible either. Nice to "meet you" mate. Cheers from Aus.

Hi glad to hear you enjoyed it, I always use 0.8 wire aswell, there are times where thinner might make life easier I think but I am so used to using the 0.8 that I never get round to trying tbh. If your fro oz you should take a look at Justin sprigg sculptures on Instagram he does some awesome work!

Did you heat the long pieces to get the curves?

Not for the gentle curves, only if I need a sharp turn will I use heat for it.
