I'm with the crowd here, man. The knife is great, and we love your voiceover style. I wonder if you're feeling weird about the handle because it's a little long compared to the blade length. I'm no expert, and it's a beautiful piece of art, so I guess all I'm saying is "be encouraged."
@JPsBladeworks

Nah, it's just that the handle feels like the handle is made too much for a chopper hold and not for a pinch grip hold. And i did that on purpose for aesthetics, but it feels out of place. I feel i should have gone with a smaller thinner handle. Looks cool anyways tho

A voice over is a huge help to explaining what’s going on, and how/why decisions go into the work. I personally don’t like when someone just works and doesn’t say anything.

JP… another thought… A good practice with Damascus and in particular with the tiles to help get rid of the transition lines is to allow your billet to soak at welding temperature to allow for greater grain growth between the tiles.

looks great. i forget what the full process is but you can make the tiling lines disappear through heating the blade multiple times before heat treating. i do try to share some knowledge with you each video, and you can take it or leave it lol. you advancement continues.
@JPsBladeworks
@JPsBladeworks 3 ай бұрын
Lol i appreciate the knowledge. The carbon migration is what helps blend those lines in and its done with heating the knife up and having the carbon migrate past the lines. The reason they are white is due to carbon loss when forging since those lines used to be the outside of the billet before being forge welded together.

Ive watched over 10 video's in last few days now. All the knives look so nice. U thinking about making other things? Like axes or folding knives or anything else? Greetings from holland

Greetings. I want to make other things but it takes time as i slowly tool up for new things. I just recently upgraded my press so i hope to learn how to make hammers and axes sooner than later. I want to learn to make folding knives as well but that will take some time due to so many moving parts and time investment.

It's the big hook on the rear of the handle that messes it up, I'd grind it down to a simpler, cleaner shape.

really really nice work. truly a work of art! If i may, why do you hand -and the higher grits? Do they not make sanding belts that fine?
@JPsBladeworks

It's easier to control doing it by hand and gives a better finish. The higher your handsand the less the scratches are visible in the final product once you etch it, so it gives it an overall nicer view.

1st of all I think the knife build was awesome a few things however and again I know it’s easy for me to say since I know nothing about hand making a knife so 1). Who cares if people don’t like your voice over your annunciation is great 2). The handles and patterns on the blade are great 3). So what town in Florida do you have your shop/store 4). Do you make sheaths for your knives

1) I do the voice overs without a script so I just say what comes to mind and sometimes it's a rant but I don't take things to heart. I just do it to make fun of them. 2) thank you 3) I currently work out of my garage. 4) I do not make sheaths. I never took the time to learn.
