To make a little "house" for needles was very meditative and relaxing, I hope you also find the video enjoyable!
Now I dream of getting a better mic to be able to catch all those cozy crafting sounds and background sounds. Anyone has some tips n trix on that subject?
In this video I'm using ceramic clay which I fired in an electric kiln and Im making a so called "nålhus" which is Swedish and means "needle house", a place to store your sewing needles and carry them with you.
This shape/type of nålhus is inspired by the ones traditionally made by the Sami people who often craft with reindeer horns. They are the indigenous people of northern Scandinavia and Kola Peninsula of Russia.
This particular nålhus is sold but I have a few more in my webshop here: www.nymla.se/shop
You will find more videos of my ceramics crafting at / nymla

Thanks for watching!:)

Love watching your process. So peaceful and relaxing. Your work is beautiful. I have never seen this or heard of it, but I have Scandinavian heritage, so now find it extra intetesting. Thank you for sharing.😊

I love it! I make these out of more traditional materials, namely antler and deer bones, but absolutely love the idea of a ceramic one. I saw the caption mention you hadnt figured a better way to twist the cord that its strung on, and Id like to suggest what i do: typically I use this with a lace of thin buckskin or goat skin leather that ive dampened, but it would work here as well: just cut the cord to a little over twice the length of what you want the final length to be. Then, attach one end to something solid. clamping or tying to a table works well. Then simply twist the cord until its twisted enough that it wants to wind up on itself if you give it a little slack. carefully bring the ends back together, keeping tension on the line with a finger, and allow the twist to start in at the center point. it'll twist itself up tightly with very little effort on your part and do so extremely quickly. I hope that might help somewhat.

Thanks a lot! I was very inspired by the sami craft where they make nålhus of bone and reindeer antlers, when I made these 😁 And thanks for the cording suggestion! I did figure out a better way since then 😊 I think last time I clamped and rolled them, or I just held one end in my left hand and rolled the two cords at the same time on my lap with the right hand and then let go with the left hand and let them twist up, if that makes sense 😁 Ill try your method next time 👌

I did some sleuthing as your "lil butter knife" looked familiar. I believe it to be a painter's palette knife similar to an RGM Classic Palette Knife #107. Great video and useful Nalhus.
