We are making us a new hay field for the spring! We have about 10 acres of some bottomland property that isn't being used. We have planted corn on it in the past, but haven't in a couple years. We decided it would be a good location to plant some rye grass that we can cut and make rye grass haylage next spring.
The property had some drainage issues so last year we dug a ditch and did some work to keep water from standing on it. The water is draining much better, but it left some uneven places in the field. Our plan is to go through and plow the field up, fertilize it, spread lime on it, smooth it down as best we can and plant rye grass.
