In teaching the Physics of Sound in a STEM workshop, a nice add on that kids can use as a take away! Thanks Kenny!

That is awesome 👏 I can only imagine a child playing with this, laughing. This is what the world needs more of, quality, fun ideas and less crap plastic toys that ends up destroyed and in the trash in a couple months. When my son was a little less then a year old, his favorite toy was a bunch of poplar I cut down into blocks for him from scraps from a project. He loved them.

It doesn't take much to make a child happy and give them a new interest in something. A simple toy like this one can give them an interest in crafting, music and woodworking all in one project. Thanks for tuning in Randy and for sharing your story. I love it.

Brother only a musician could of pulled that off. NICE. I used to stretch a rubber band from my teeth to pointer finger and, (try to) play popcorn. Two months in, so far so good. Peace.

Lovely little project, wouldn't survive 5 minutes with my kid, but it's a nice idea my wife will try with her kids in kindergarten. Thanks for sharing. And yes, the imperial math almost killed me :D

Easily translated to metric. I hope the kindergarten kids love it. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Our metric friend's will have a heyday with this build! Just a side note (sorry--had to be said): Thinking perhaps your instrument might resonate differently if a hardwood, instead of pine, were used? Enjoyed this project.
@acutabove_woodworkings2 жыл бұрын
It would be very easy to build this in metric. My dimensions were made up on the fly so they are very easily translated to metric. Also, the materials I used were the materials I had on hand and are merely for the demonstration. Feel free to use whatever materials you'd like. I agree that a better tone wood would produce better sound. Thanks for tuning in Dwight.

Just when I'm wondering from Friday to Tuesday what you are going to do next. You always surprise us. Great show again Kenny! You know, this winter might be a good time to throw in a whirligig series on a Tuesday. Hint, hint hahahaha. Or a weathervane? But, if you are like me, you have a bunch of ideas and designs piling up lol. Four, just the other day, I put together to try my hand at wood carving for next winter when my shop is closed. Never tried that before.Take care!

I have plans on making a whirligig Michael. It's all a matter of timing and having the time to get it designed and made. Hopefully we will see one in the near future. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for the kind words.

A fascinating and surprising video there Kenny, i was starting to get a headache though when you were doing all those fractions ha ha ha. How many outtakes did it take to get that word right at the end ha ha ha. Stay Safe, Barry (ENG)

It produces sound but the sound is not loud. It's more of a fun toy than a legitimate musical instrument. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Looks like a fun build, was wondering if you used a hard wood like oak as a base and maybe the keys (craft sticks) from a different wood (I have seen on Amazon craft sticks made from different wood) this is a cute project👍 thanks Ken

Woods that are more forgiving as tone woods might give a better sound in this project for sure. It's definitely a fun one to get the kids involved with. thanks for tuning in Alan.

Terrible measuring at the start. I'll never get used to measurements less than 1/8 of an inch. The piano is a nice idea. I hope European popsicles have a width in millimeters. Thanks for sharing the idea.
@acutabove_woodworkings2 жыл бұрын
Those imperial measurements can be a bit of a bear can't they. No matter whether you use the imperial or the metric system, this is still a fun project to get the kids involved with. Although I have to admit, those measurements would have been much easier to mark on this one using metric. LOL. Thanks for tuning in Hans. It's appreciated.

That's not even close to being a piano... piano is a hammered dulcimer. That more closely resembles a Kalimba
@acutabove_woodworkings2 жыл бұрын
Popsicle stick piano, dulcimer, kalimba. Call it what you like but to the young child that you would be building it with, it's an instrument that is worthy of a symphony orchestra and at that point, being technical with the name doesn't mean a thing. I hope you enjoyed the show. Thanks for tuning in.
