That was like seeing into a magicians cave. What an incredible talent. Also your jig for the Porsche front was tidy as anything. Love this. I have my dads old dolly and slapper. He's been gone nearly 40 years!!!

Hi Dom , what a craftsman that man is and how fortunate to spend time with him learning . This has alwas been my argument when they finished apprenterships for young boys. No youngsters were coming into the construction industury and learning the skills. Such a shame. Good video Dom , looking forward to next week, Cheers.

Never assume your panel is wrong when fitting to a very old car. Cars may have been repaired even before sold as new, and many times since. After working with car bodies for 40 years I can tell you that some panel beaters are not as skilled as they should be and have been working for a profit. Many times near enough is good enough in bodyshops back in the 80s. Even the high end dealerships. Even the factory on mass production vehicles were quite sloppy back in the 70s. It could be your original bonnet didn't fit as well as you may though it was supposed to.

What a skilled tradesman , the UK used to be FULL of very talented blokes like Jeff but they are a dying breed and each year depletes the reserve even more. We must get the youngsters interested whilst there is still time to pass the trades over to them.

I never really understood coach work until you bought Ramala. I have seen English wheels on other KZbin channels, but they are not as stout as the Ramala. I can now imagine how cars were built before stamping. Watching the old school craftsmen you have on your show I can see how mater metal workers could build practically identical car bodies using a pattern in a reasonable amount of time. It is good to see that you are providing a new generation of metal workers the old tools of the trade.

Brilliant and I rather like the sort of Porsche lightweight approach to the new bonnet. In fact, why not. As for the final fit, I recall during a relatively recent tour of the Mercedes C-class production line the fitting of bonnets and doors just by some careful bending and the odd bash here and there with a wooden mallet. And it works, certainly according to the high-tech measuring and monitoring screens.

So, are you planning to rebuild the whole 356 as an aluminium 'super-legere'? There's so little steel left that I could not see how you could restore this beautiful car.
