Been watching a bunch of your rocketry videos. I see you are using nylon chutes which is good, but recovery systems failure to deploy, failure to deploy correctly (tangled), or failure to deploy at all, can be attributed improper stowage. To achieve a higher success ration I suggest the following two tips. 1) carefully dust the chute with talcum powder prior to launch. Be sure to make sure some of the powder ends up between the tube and the cone to assure a clean separation. 2) To avoid tangles, be sure to carefully fold the chute into pie sections and then cure, wrapping the string around the chute very carefully. Combined with the powder, this will avoid the tangles and assure full deployment almost 100 percent of the time.

Rapid unscheduled disassembly. I love that phrase. The stereotype of UK weather being horrible is spot on. It feels like it's cold, wet, windy or a combination of all of them, for most of the year. Then, we get a scorching heatwave that lasts a couple of weeks in the summer, where everyone is boiling to death, then back to the endless drizzle. And it always seems to be horrible weather whenever I want to fly. Either too windy, too cold, or raining. Merry Christmas!

Nice video man, great to see young guys getting into model rocketry. I bought my first Estes rocket way back in 1980, it was red a black with skull and crossbones decals. Flew great, although the fins got damaged on landing. Fins that don’t protrude from the base downwards work much better for models. Great see guys using all the cool kit to model and receive telemetry these days. Regarding the speed and GPS, can you not use accelerometers these days? They’re pretty cheap and compact as far as I know.

Nice project! I’m a little bit worried about the Estes BT80 tubes being able to handle a G or an H. Speaking from experience, those CTI composite motors have way more thrust than a black powder motor, and the Estes tubes are quite thin and really only meant for low-power use without any reinforcement. In the future as you progress into high-power I would suggest you consider using thicker tubes.

Aside from weight, which I don't know off hand, I'd recommend a Tile Pro for bluetooth location. The Tile Pro has a range of about 300 feet, whereas the Tile Sticker only has 150 feet, according to Tile. The Tile Pro is relatively easy to disassemble, with a bit of finesse, and remove the plastic case/metal frame, wire a 3V battery to, to save weigh but gain a bit of distance if you need it. Not to mention the Tile Pro has a much louder ringer, which is (from experience) decreased a lot when placing it inside an RC vehicle...

RockSim is a great bit of software. I remember when that was only available on 3.5" disks. The GPS calculations don't work well for vertical speed. Try using an integrating accelerometer or a logging pressure system instead. I know, you did not want to use a rocket computer but the difference in accuracy is worth it.
