Mountain glass is the reason i was able to transfer from learning from someone to doing it on my own. Litterally, Michelle was the first friendly face in the glass industry. Their customer service is off the hook, and if you spend over a hundred bucks they PLANT A DANG TREE... The best crew in Asheville straight up. If I ever had to work for someone else again, it would 100% be mountain glass. - your friendly neighborhood bear

I like to build my bubble caps from the bottom up to the handle. First I do a small coil pot and stretch it into a small tube .then blow a hole at the end of the tube. Then I do another coil pot for the center bubble. Then I pop a hole at the top of the bubble and coil pot the handle then open up the end of the handle. Then I grabbed it with hot fingers and remove it from the blow tube and then open up the other side. Done

Hey guys thanks for all the guides and demos, doubt I'd be blowing glass if it wasn't for you. Any tips for dealing with condensation in your blowtube when using frit? Been making a bunch of frit spoons and I always end up with a coating inside the blowtube that I have to rinse out before using it for another piece.
@aname11284 жыл бұрын
Pop a hole in the end of the blank, pour the frit in that, seal the hole, melt in the frit. If you need more do it again.

As a furnace worker now learning torchworking I love how you give the brief history of the techniques or tools you're using as they tend to be Venetian often. I have always enjoyed Venetian glass the most due to the delicate and intricate nature. Thank you for showing how all of these traditional techniques and tools can be applied to flameworking in such an effective way. Are there any special precautions one should take when creating fumed spoons or chillums? i.e. is fume safe inside of tubing or must it be encased to be used for smoking purposes? Proper ventilation is a given already!
@aname11284 жыл бұрын
at least 1k of cfm, Once you apply the silver heat the blank with a slightly oxidizing flame to the point where the clear starts to get level 1 barely orange glow. once that cools run that heat back over it one more time to "bake the silver in" you're melting the surface of the glass to allow the atomized silver to make it's way into the surface. If you're blowing off your fume you're using too much oxygen, you're too close to the torch, or you're not baking in enough. If your fume is turning out grey and gross just use a little less propane when applying and baking it in. Silver doesn't need to be fully encased for a pipe as long as it's baked it. If it wipes off with hard rubbing it's not baked in enough. If you encase fume you'll end up with the beginnings of space tubing which is also cool but considerable more difficult. I don't know everything but in my 3 years of experience with fuming this is what i've found for myself.

@julianmetcalfe80704 жыл бұрын
when a color boils, you'll see tiny bubbles start to form in the molten glass that shouldnt be there, can be avoided by adjusting your gases, which depends on what color you're using

Very cool as always Dustin. First a comment more then a question. Recently i chided you a bit that sometimes you forget to explain small details that us noobies dont get, like always adjust your flame to the size of the work, without saying what thatbis, or don't put your metal in the flame, without saying why (granted that one's a bit obvious), or quite often you'll have a blowtube attached and never mention it or why its on. I hope you took the constructive criticism as it was given, in friendship to give a small tip, not at all as a bitch out. My comment is for Kevin. WAY TO GO! Noticed a lot recently youve caught the perspective us us noobs and stepped in to fill in those blanks. I saw the tube this video and was going to ask here, to verify as i assumed, it was just to keep some even pressure going to combat collapse, and then WHAM! Kevin pipes upnasnif hearing me and answered. Thanks Kevin your extra viewpoint and comments are on point, helpful and very appreciated. Question, so id just been questioning my self, the aspect of heating cadmium colors too fast and boiling them, and realizing ive done it but have no clue the outcome or long term harm done. Id decided i needed to boil a section and let it cool, and slow heat a section and let it cool to compare, just as i did when first playing with striking colors, heat with neutral, heat with oxidizing, heat with reducing or carbureting flame, compare, then run tests putting the oxidized rod through a reducing or neutral etc to compare the end results. Second bit to what's the end result of boiling, what can be done to undue the damage once boiled and what should be done to not boil it, heat way out in the annealing end if the flame well away from the jets in a cooler reducing flame i imagine and is there a point like once glowing its safe to bring it to a hot hot flame. I think never, it will always boil
