I like the idea of using a ball bearing in the tailstock end. Would it help the clearance problem if you make a cup shape support for the bearing to increase the available space. Thanks for all the good work and videos, inspiring!

As an apprentice learning the trade of Machining, welding, fabricating and fitting at Robt Cort and sons Ltd in Reading (50 years ago) I was taught that the Isle of Wight method was the best for identifying the determined size of a bearing, ie.....Inside....Outside....Width......IOW. Have you or any other viewers done it this way?

Hi Rich You can see in part two I've put a comment adding the bearing details, the sizes given are I.O.W. Thanks for your comments Alan

Alan, not sure if you are aware but centre drills can be had with a radius instead of an angle form for producing morse tapers, just a bit of trivia,

Thanks Walter I know they made them years ago but I haven't seen one for ages

Dont understand why all the shifting of the tailstock to do the taper... touching here not touching there, seems like guesswork. ... no?

Hi Alan, looking back at your "headstock handle, expanding mandrel" video . What size hex stock did you use? Thanks
@enotsengineering6 жыл бұрын
Hi The hex size was 0.922" AF but thats not important. just use some stock that you can fit a spanner to so you can turn the mandrel. Regards Alan
