I was really happy and blessed to stumble upon all of her videos about the ribbon skirts. I do agree that it’s reclaiming power of the First Nation women. Which made it better for my experience was that I am making a ribbon skirt while listening to her videos and I feel a powerful presence that’s enlightening and sparking a power that I am reclaiming for my ancestors.

So many other tutorials I've watched were so complex, but this one is simple and easy! I made my first 2 skirts using Tala's technique, and when someone who sews asked me where I learned it from, they said she was using the old fashioned way. Honestly, I love it when people make things so easy and it was so effortless! I'll be using this for all of my ribbon skirts!

Hello all! I thought the idea of fabric spray for ribbon skirts was a really great idea! However, I came across troubles because the ribbon would not lay flat, and kept bunching up. I didn’t have this problem when I used heat and bond on my other skirt. I recommend heat and bond over the fabric spray!

This was a good tutorial. The only thing she forgets to include is extra inches around the waist for sewing and room. I add an extra 10-15” for the waist and 4” for the length. My first skirt I ever made, I followed what she suggested (except I knew I needed to add 1 inch extra for hemming) and the skirt was snug, but wearable. (My daughter said she felt like she was walking like Mortisha from The Adam’s Family.

It is perfectly fine for you to make & wear a ribbon skirt. Wear it anytime you want. The ribbon skirt originated in the wake of the global flu pandemic of 1918-21. There are videos describing the origin on KZbin. Originally lengths of ribbon were left hanging off the side seams of the skirt. When out walking, the free hanging ribbons would touch the grass. It was a way of connecting with the earth. Good luck & good health!
