Tips for making a doll when you have no money or sewing machine? I plan on cutting up a flesh tone shirt for the skin and buying baby clothes for it when I have money.

1. You don't have to use flesh toned fabric if you want to keep the shirt, sometimes colors look really cool! 2. You can hand stitch it with yarn (it's easier to work with and it's what I do).

I'm trying to help a friend of mine in Africa work out ways of making dolls in her country, Ghana, to make black dolls for the little girls in her area. I'm hopping it could start to change things. Apparently, the only dolls there are white. Shipping them there would be expensive. It seems, this is the best solution. Here's the question, anyone have ideas on how to make black hair? I mean making the braids, curls and other cute styles usually worn by little black girls. I'm thinking making crocheted dreads, would work, beyond that, any ideas would be useful.
