I made this experimental violin, out of birch plywood, maple and copper. The instrument uses a piezoelectric pickup under the bridge. The pickup converts the vibrations of the bridge into electric signal which is then amplified with the amp.
Tools and materials I propose:
Bandsaw: amzn.to/2pHj49v
Router: amzn.to/2CdEP8D
Rotary tool: amzn.to/2QGu42m
Jointer planer: amzn.to/2IQZ3WR
Flat rasp: amzn.to/2ITVDm0
Round rasp: amzn.to/2A5EpPS
Flat file: amzn.to/2RHIMHH
Round file: amzn.to/2RHJ80Z
Spoke shave: amzn.to/2E74p1w
Pickup and output jack: amzn.to/2QJMorn

The fact that there are not enough videos of this type of violin or any approachable alternative to the, with all due respect, classical violin just emphasized how stuck the instrument is within it's musical bounds.

I agree with you. The violin is the most complete string instrument in my opinion. Everything on it has a reason to be there! But still, this is you tube you can do anything you want and share it with others. So why not do so? Also in my videos I share so many different techniques! Perhaps not many will like my violin, but many people will catch a tip or two here and there!

in India, there is folk instrument which is 100s of year old. its called "Ektara" .. means "One String". This violin resembles it conceptually.

I always wonder why people make the hull of a violin in these type of videos so thick. Its supposed to resonate the sound of the strings, the thickness removes that. And what's with leaving out the scroll, it's kinda sad to see everyone dump on that feature

I'm surprised at how much it actually sounds like a violin!! Although that's probably owing mostly to the use of a bow. I am curious though - with the use of a piezo pickup, is it actually necessary for the instrument to be a hollowbody? Does the piezo pick up better with a more 'prominent' resonating cavity like in a hollowbody rather than if you just carved a single solid piece of wood? Something I've been wondering about in a past few days.
@ScrapwoodCity
@ScrapwoodCity 6 жыл бұрын
Not really necessary to be hollow! It's just a bit lighter this way
