Thank you! My kids haven’t even heard of a slide whistle. I can’t wait to try it.. btw hope to have 1/2 the tools and just 1/4 the knowledge/experience you have someday..things like that are a lost art. Definitely a 👍🏻and subscription from me!

flattening the side of a dowel creates a "reed" like on a flute. Nice job/explanation. Thank you.

A heck of a lot of fun to make Michael. I just with that I would have made it longer to get more tones from it. Maybe on the next one. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words on the show.

I wonder if you could use a length of brass rod, like the one you used to make your centre finder. Drill your 2 or 3 pieces of wood and slide them onto the brass rod, adding glue to just the wood of course. Once set gently tap the brass rod out again. Just a thought. Have a great day.

I'm sure there are many different ways to make this Cliff and I don't see why your way wouldn't work. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your suggestion. It's very much appreciated.

Kenny, cool little project, your son-ln-law came up with a good idea. You know that with a few more holes, a plugged end and a little longer wood you could probably make a neat little piccolo. More musical instruments for you to master.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 4 жыл бұрын
I've actually thought of that Paul. It's a shame that you and I don't live closer. If we were to put our heads together, we'd have enough show ideas to last the next few decades. LOL. Thanks for tuning in sir.

Just a quick question. Is the flat side of the reed facing the birds mouth opening or the bottom of the whistle ? Looking forward to trying out this project for my grandsons. Love your videos. Thanks for the wholesome content 😀
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 8 ай бұрын
If I understand your question correctly Bryan, it is facing the bird's mouth opening. You can always test the whistle to make sure that it works prior to gluing anything in place. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words. It's very much appreciated. Good luck on your project.

I know this is old but you could drill you hole one size say 1/16 less than your final size then drill it again the the final size. It would leave a cleaner hole.

As long as you are using twist bits, that would work just fine Steve. With brad point bits....not so much. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for taking the time to chime in with your suggestion. It's appreciated.

The grandkids would love this whereas your kids will question your sanity. Exactly the same affect as those flute like recorders or worst a drum set. I should mention I'm not a fan of "noise". My daughter still gives me "the look" because I disabled the spring noise maker on her big wheel! I do appreciate the video however. LOL

Cool! Any suggestion on a finish? I’m not sure about the kids’ lips going on wood with a chemical finish.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 3 жыл бұрын
Using a finish like varnish is just fine. Once it is dry, it is non toxic. It's pretty hard to ingest a finish once it is dry. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
