I just love those negative comments... "But you can buy one for 6c". We fish from our own shed built boat. Your time and effort making the lures and filming the process is appreciated. Inspires me to realise more of my own ideas. +1

i think i no longer see these type of comments as wholly negative, they kind of confirm that not everybody is like me and enjoys doing what i do. I make things because i enjoy it and i seldom get that feeling from anything i have bought, maybe that is unusual or possibly not, but i have my own prejudices, i look at jewellery and think what is that all about. In the uk we have a saying about the shed, that it has saved many a marriage. Hopefully i will get the next film finished in a couple of days, thanks

@@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman it must be horrible to be a person who cannot use their own hands to create but must buy every single thing in life. Making stuff is what sets us apart from other animals, also the patience one develops is a lifelong asset... I've recently started making cage & block-end feeders.. Fishing is my passion & I could sit by a river or lake forever !! 😎 I also do woodworking / electronics / machining metal / mechanical repair and a host of other hobbies. I'm not a master of any particular one discipline but more a "Jack-of-all-trades" & I like it that way... 🤗 Love the vid & subbed !! 👍😎

Did this as a kid of sorts with a Creepy Crawlers toy set that I owned. I actually had some luck with the fly and centipede, but they didn't hold up all that well. After one or two catches the lures would be all but demolished. Still I remember being happy back then because it was something that I made.

Morning Dieter, I have used this with lead, it is not recommended and the molds deteriorate quickly, there is high temperature version which gets up to lead melt temp around 320 deg c but i have never used it. Thinking of jig heads or spinnerbaits?

the mould materials costs about £2, then the plastisol costs about £.06 per lure. But the initial outlay can be pricey as the platisol and colours are normally sold in quantity. I make things for fun not for pirce as i find there is always someone somewhere selling lures cheaper than i could hope to make them. I suppose also i get to make what i want not what the tackle shop stops. Thanks for asking

This looks like fun and you can probably save some money in the long run. Also its nice being able to make custom colors without having to buy whole packs. How long do the molds last? after that initial mold making process all you need is the plastic and coloring, maybe some glitter if you wanna get fancy. That action looks nice.

i have a big box of things that don't work or don't work how i would like, if i don't mess things up once or twice a day then something is wrong. I have ten plastic lures which all look the the same but the internal weight is a different position, nine of them swim like concrete blocks the tenth does a wiggle. I find it hard to get that across in the videos, a lot of these lures i am attempting for the first time like beetle lures and most after testing over and over again. thanks

I have seen a lot of folks cloning baits with a similar process. I wonder if this could work with slabtail jigs like a crappie style bait. They have a very fine tail. If I thought I could make those, then I would definitely want to make my own jigs. I'm just not sure about this process with that type of tail. The tail is very fine. They might need a milled mold to make it work.

Do you think liquid latex would work for the mould and the lure? Or maybe plaster paris mould and liquid latex lure?
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 9 жыл бұрын
+jonnywaselectric latex is not something i have tried with hot pvc but it may work, plaster of paris will work , you may need to seal it with something like epoxy or a heavy wax or use lot of oil. It may be an idea not to bake the master but just leave it soft as it will be very easy to take out of the cured plaster

Thanks , Paul , ......yeah , might come in useful some day . Some years ago the chief writer of a local angling magazine(I know him in person) used some special silicone molding clay used by dental surgeons for getting jaw prints for braces or false teeth . He used a life minnow as the master to cast leaden jigging spoons(pirks) . Tried to make my own , but failed due to wrong material , borrowed his mold and cast a few dozens , no problems about heat , real hot perch killers, these pirks !

+Scott Was Here the microwave makes hot spots in the pvc so if it is not stirred it end up with brown or black burnt areas in it, I would guess food coloring is water based and would boil which could be a little dangerous Some colours are better mixed in early on like fluorescents some later .
