Thank you for your comment and question. Yes you could use a spica bandage for this, once the shoulder has been reduced. You could also use a velpeau sling.

Hello, the splint should be removed once the fracture has healed. This can be determined on X-rays.

How about back thigh

I am very glad you asked that question. The back thigh on a dog cannot be splinted. When the femur (the thigh bone) is fractured we do not splint it. As a matter of fact the splint can make the fracture worse (more displaced). Fortunately, there are many muscles around the femur and they can help to keep the fractured pieces of the bone from moving too much.

Hi and thank you for your question. Sorry I missed this comment and have taken so long to reply. A spica bandage can work for shoulder. Cats do not like bandages very much and the shoulder is an inherently stable joint once the dislocation has been reduced so for a cat you can consider crate rest for 10 days after reduction..
