I'd suggest you make the hole further down .. let's say half an inch from the bottom. This way you won't need to raise the blade much, clamp won't pinch on the blade and thus you'd have less kickback risk.

MAKE YOU A PUSH STICK, and something to stabilize the piece being sawed. Up and down movement seems accident waiting to happen. Like the idea of jigs you are working on.

Simpler than others I've seen. One possible improvement is to use a (spanner) socket in the drill and then you can use a square piece to start 🤔 Thanks for sharing 👍🏻 Good luck 🍀

If you are still alive, you need to know there are safer ways to do what you did. 1. lower the holes and lower the blade. 2. Use 2 clamps to hold the jig in place. 3. Respect your table saw and KNOW that it can kill you!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Honestly this was used twice for making some toy fishing rods. But in over the 2 years since I've posted this. I might have matured my understanding in health and safety in regards to the table saw. Yes it worked. Did I loose any appendages. No. But that was probably by good luck. If done again. I would definitely make way more modifications to try and eliminate any risks. Saying that I've seen way better ways of making dowels since I've posted this. Thanks for watching and taking the time to post. Much appreciated.

What size motor you got on the machine. First time I saw one stall out like that. ..SAFETY.. for your fingers. If it pinches you might loose some fingers. Thanks for the idea.

OMG! I cringe to see all that is WRONG here and what could happen. I knew two brothers who suffered injury from table saw kickback. Their nicknames were One Eye and One Ball.
@philipmarshall3 жыл бұрын
Honestly thanks for your comment. But if you have ppe, and and experience with tools. The limitations on kickback from this set up is very limited. Yes table saws do give kickback. But when you have a full face mask on and your fingers go nowhere near the blade. The limitations of injury are highly reduced.

@@philipmarshall Thanks for taking the time to make the video, I am going to make something similar to this. As a cabinet maker I have to strongly disagree with you here. I feel like I could list 10 things that you should not have been doing, and most of those things wearing a mask is hardly going to be saving you. Some of those things would get you fired in my shop for sure. You may be able to get away with it more because you have a small table saw. I legitimately had to look away when you were doing the chamfer freehand on there. If you were to twist that the wrong way on my saw, it is going to seriously mess you up, and again, a face mask will do nothing at all except save your eyeballs. Not trying to come down on you here, just worried for you.

That block is too small and almost came loose while you were working. It needs to put the hole further from the fence. You should also have made it sit over the fence so that you can clamp to it from both sides. This dedign is an zccident waiting to happen znx should be taken offline.

Aren't you worried about the stress this puts on the bearings and motor? The force it puts on the blade causes to much pressure from a side impact to the bearing. There are better ways to make dowels that won't caused harm to your table saw.
@philipmarshall2 жыл бұрын
Honestly it was for two dowels. I've not needed it since. I've also learned a lot from doing this since this was posted and through comments. If you need it you can do it. Yes I've now found better ways of doing them. But it is a possibility that has proven to work. Though with various degrees of danger. 🤞👍

@@philipmarshall I made dowel jigs out of old dies, they work perfectly and extremely fast. I have 1/4 to 1 1/4 inch. Very easy to make. I can send you a copy of my plans if you'd like. It took a few days to make them all. I put the dies in my die hand held threader and run it up the wood. It comes out like its been sanded. Two small blades on opposite ends inside the die held in by a threaded set screw. I should patent them but its to much trouble. Let me know.

tonight it's a choice between watching an american werewolf in london, or this video. putting your hands over the blade smh. a broom handle isn't worth your fingers. that clamp setup is dangerous man. read down, as someone has already commented on that. we can all overlook things and mistakes, but i feel you you are knowingly cutting corners. you can easily fix some mistakes in a very short time, and it'll make big difference.
