A few tips from an experienced keeper, you should add some non-metalic fly net/window mesh on the top. 99 % of the time they hang out, it'll be from the very top. And if they decide to molt from a slick surface, they could fall and die mid-molt. A few sticks to hang from a twice the adult size (about 20 cm.) above the substrate is also a good idea too, in case it wants a different molting spot. And while I can't be sure, I think I lost a mantis once to high humidity, could have been a weak or sick mantis I had. But it is a thing to keep in mind that the humidity should be pretty ambient to your room up till molting, here they of course appreciate a bit higher humidity. Happy keeping!

@@Tonknado Not at all! Males live about a year, while females live about a year and a half for this species. Smaller species at about 5 cm and below tend to live six to eight months, with species going twoards that year mark scaling with the adult size and maxing out at 10 cm. Ie. a adult at 8 cm. would live roughly 10 months and so on. As for heat, you will not need it, unless the room goes below 20 degress for days at a time. A rule of thumb for non-exotic species, if you are comfortable, they are comfortable too. And will only need more humidity if they are about to molt. This article: www.keepinginsects.com/praying-mantis/species/giant-asian-mantis/ is a great resource for new keepers. I can highly recommend it and the rest of the site too. The only thing I'll add is that some have reported that mantids can digest crickets. I've bought mantis that were fed crickets before I got them, and they did fine. So it is purely a rumor, but I still wouldn't feed them crickets just in case.

I get mantises every year at my home and this is the first year that I’ve fed them. I now have a female who lives in my plant on my back patio! Her name is Felicia!!!
