I've been doing a lot of reading up about stick chairs lately (mostly the Lost Arts Press stick chair book) and I've been watching lots of videos about making them too and finally decided to dip my toes into the stick chair world with a simple 3 legged stool. I really wanted a stool for my workshop and made myself one out of Ash and then I had just enough walnut lying around so I decided to make this one to try and raise some money for charity.
I will be giving this stool away as part of a prize draw to raise money for Help Auckland, if you're from New Zealand and interested in winning it you can find out more here dosomethinghel...
Learning about stick chairs has been fascinating for me, I feel like I am learning to look at wood grain in a whole new way! This video from @peter was particularly helpful! • Foundation in Chairmak...
I was so paralyzed looking at all the options for turning round tenons but decided I could save some money and turn them on my lathe, so far they've all fit really nicely into their holes, but I'm sure there's an easier way to turn the tenons. Either with a tenon sizing tool or I've seen people modify a spanner to cut accurate tenons, I might have to try that!
