@operationgoldfish8331
@operationgoldfish8331 4 жыл бұрын
@@3x3CustomTamar Maybe not $10k, but decent quality power tools cost a fair bit and you must have at least $1,000 worth there. That belt sander alone is a costly looking item. I also envy you Americans your access to space. Here in the UK land is pricey and I end up basically having to stack tools on top of each other - it makes maintaining accuracy a bit difficult. Wood is also much more expensive over here so I have to recycle/upcycle scrap wood. Overall, an interesting effort but I'd probably have gone the fabrication route, rather than the router route for the body build.
@3x3CustomTamar
@3x3CustomTamar 4 жыл бұрын
Grey Wolf yeah. I guess I take that stuff for granted. I totally agree with you on the construction of the body. Next time I’m going to cut out thin strips of plywood to the shape I want. Then glue those up together to make the walls taller

I can't read all the comments to see if anyone made this suggestion. I was thinking it might have been a lot easier to make the body by resawing the back off the blank then shaping the outside of the body. Next you would band saw out the interior of the body. Shape the back the same way you shaped the front and glue it to the body. This being similar to the way you make bandsaw boxes. Plus you ghave a sizable chunk of wood leftover from the cutout interior. Great video. Well done.

You did a great job. I really don't understand the negative comments about how you built it. You made it from materials you had available and did a really good job. You designed the project, solved problems, made process decisions, and created a one-of-a-kind three string guitar that looks really good and sounds as good as it looks. I don't get the sniping about HOW you made it, like there are style points for build / process decisions. It's the end result that counts and you hit it out of the park. Congratulations to you!

Definitely not consistent with traditional guitar builds, but after watching this I watched a few other cigar box builds and I have to say this is hands above those. Acoustic guitars want to have a lot of resonance, which generally means thinner back, sides and top. I was shaking my head through the whole build, but then have to admit it sounded surprisingly awesome in the end. That spalted top was beautiful! Also, I've never used those disc piezos before. When I saw all that hot glue I thought, "that's never going to work". It defies nearly every principle of piezos I am familiar with, but it sounded great. So all that constructive criticism I was saving up??? Nevermind. You built a beautiful instrument and it sounded great. Thanks for sharing.
@buckhorncortez
@buckhorncortez 5 жыл бұрын
Why would you cringe for the whole video? She did a great job with the guitar and it came out fine. Do you get some kind of style points for HOW the project is made? You might not use the same wood working techniques - but, YOUR techniques are necessarily either better or correct - they're simply different. I probably would not have built it the same way, but I learned a couple of alternative methods watching the video and may try incorporating them into my work. I truly don't get the comment.
@3x3CustomTamar

QuinnMendel it’s different from a traditional guitar bc it’s not a traditional guitar! It’s a whole nother animal! But it gave me the confidence to think that I can actually build a real acoustic guitar. When I get a drum sander of course.... 😂😂

@@3x3CustomTamar Yep - I get that. Honestly, I've never built a cigarbox guitar or looked into their typical construction. So I watched your video first and formed some opinions, but then (thankfully) had the presence of mind to watch a few other cigarbox builds which reset my expectations and gave me a renewed appreciation for what you accomplished. Frankly, my biggest concern with your approach is with all that end grain. I really, really hope it holds up, but my history with such matters is that it will want to warp and split. Hopefully the wood hardener will save you... BTW, your neck-through design was brilliant!

15:02 ... yes, making a hollow box from a solid chunk of wood was crazy (and not just a bit) ... and cigar boxes are easy to find in any tobacco shop... still, the end result is mighty impressive, looks pretty cool! Power to you mate! Super cool build. I am so impressed. Well done! I am contemplating building one of these myself. I have a bit of experience in assembling guitars from prefabricated parts. However I have never attempted building one from scratch. I have been collecting random pieces of timber and I think I have enough to make a project like this work. You have really inspired me.

Wow amazing wood working skills ...sounds good too. If you didn't like the. Closeness of the tuning peg you could remove one tuner and glue in a dowel and even add a veneer over the head stock to hide the patch ...then redrill your new peg location.
