In this video I create a beautiful classic keepsake box in white oak. I take an extra step which give the box a grain match at each corner. It also features a beautiful bevel on the lid and a shadowline feature around the base.

That’s a like, a subscribe, and a comment from me! After watching this whole video, I was absolutely SHOCKED at how little subscribers you have, this video is better than most I watch from people with 100k+, but I’m sure you’ll be there soon, and now I’m here from the beginning!

Thank you Benjamin, I truly appreciate your kind words. It's comments like these that make the additional hours filming and editing worth the work!

Great video, as usual! Its great to see some content creators still posting actual build videos, rather than top 10 tools, top 10 tips & tricks, tool reviews, etc. YT used to be a place to learn. Unfortunately, it seems as if its becoming a big Sunday morning - a place of infomercials all day long. Thank you for posting a great video! Tony 🇺🇸

Loved watching your video, your descriptions and editing were pleasing. The end result was amazing, beautiful piece, very skillfully done. The amount of effort that went into this is respectfully too much for me but the final product is worth it if you have someone to appreciate it!

Thanks so much Michael! I agree, it was a lot of work but it was for a dear friend so it's time well spent!

Nice video. Grain matching adds such visual appeal. Glad to see someone else shares my opinion about splines on a decorative keepsake box. It's just a box.

Thanks so much! I know it's KZbin heresy to speak against spline but I really think they're over-utilised, I'm glad someone agrees

Just saying thanks for the presentation: a genuine honest woodworker just doing what we do. the aus accent is appealing too. I found your videos because I also researched/purchased a Harvey table saw.

Very nicely done! Cool to see how to do the 4-sided grain match too! It would be interesting to see some videos showing you organizing/rearranging/optimizing your shop since you have to deal with such a small space. My shop space is a little bigger but I still have to be deliberate about how I lay things out and move things so any ideas about how to improve are very helpful.

Thanks Rob, yeah I think I'll definitely have to build a few more permanent stations around the edges of the shop. It should hopefully improve my workflow and storage. Eventually...

@@RangeWoodworking Yeah, I totally relate to "eventually". I have so many projects on my mental to do list that it's hard sometimes to just focus on what I can do right now and go with that! Keep it up, your projects are great!

05:50 simple calculator for measuring for base is use the length of the dado on the box panels, subtract 1-2mm to allow float for seasonal changes

@@RangeWoodworking I have a pretty nice small wood working shop that I spend as much time as I can working on whatever. Lately I started making small boxes. But I am first grade compared to your work. It does take time to prefect small projects unlike larger ones. Maybe one day I can get near half your skill.

My wife took my 8 oz hammer for her tool box. I was without on for two years until I decided a framing hammer was hot the tool for very small projects. I now have a new 8 oz wooden handle hammer.

Nice box. You've inspired me to make it this weekend. What did the box's dimensions end up being?
@RangeWoodworking
@RangeWoodworking 3 ай бұрын
Good question haha! From memory I think externally it was 34x22cm. Thanks for watching and good luck with the box!

You could have used a hand power tool like a jigsaw or a circular saw. a lot of people use jigsaws to break down Lumber
@RangeWoodworking
@RangeWoodworking 24 күн бұрын
I sure could! I actually use a jigsaw for that later in the video, but it's always good to knock the spiderwebs off the hand tools. Thanks for watching!

What is it with Australia and all that beautiful, black melamine? I can only find white in my part of the States. I saw some at Bunning's on my last trip over, but figured it would be too big and expensive to fit on the plane!

It's actually known as formply over here. It's an exterior grade plywood with a phenolic coating that makes it non-stick. It's used to make concrete forms. I don't know if there's an equivalent in the US?
@ET-cj8jo
@ET-cj8jo 3 ай бұрын
@@RangeWoodworking Could it be concrete-forming ply ? We have a similar one over here (Japan) which has an epoxy non-stick coating on one side, in any colour you like as long as it is yellow !

What a beautiful box. But to use cheap hinges you nail on? Not sure that's the way to go. In fact, it's the very first box I've seen built on YT with nail on hinges. Look at Brusso hinges if you want high quality.
@RangeWoodworking
@RangeWoodworking 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Brusso hardware is not readily available in Australia, and when you can find it, its prohibitively expensive. At the end of the day this was built to a budget for a customer and their budget didn't have room for that. But good to know for the future should I need.

cutting the box into can be nerve racking. Next time before pushing it through, wax the table saw and fence.
