I have all 3 sets of houses. I have made them out of paper and cardboard and added some detail. Now I want to get them out again and follow your inspiration.😊

Thanks so much David, so happy you liked this little house! I've actually been working on a village collection house in a livestream series for the last few weeks. It's definitely longer than the short edited format, but I feel that I can touch on so many more options and answer questions directly. The whole series is on my channel, if you're interested, and this Thursday will be the final video in the series, with some fun details (I do love details 😉)

So many great tips and ideas. I have both these Tim Holtz sets and had no idea that the window frames would match! My first house was an attempt at replicating my daughter's first new house (which I haven't been able to see in person due to Covid). It came out great. Tim's village dies are very adaptable so you can create exactly what you need even if it isn't actually one of the die cuts. I love what you did with this set and look forward to seeing more.

Thanks so much! That sounds like an amazing project! I'm sure your daughter was really touched, and hope you got to see the actual house by now (and more importantly your daughter ❤). I absolutely love these dies, like you said, they're very adaptable and it's so much fun thinking of new ways to use them :)

Thanks so much Anne! I love this die set too, and I may have squealed a bit when I realized the Snowglobe windows fit it 😆 I honestly don't use it enough but I think I might have just convinced myself to get them out more ;)

I enjoyed your tutorial! Did you use a specific die or machine to cut your butterflies?
@PeculiarisArt
@PeculiarisArt 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I was talking about the butterflies and optional dies in my last livestream. I have a few different die sets that have tiny butterflies included and I use the interchangeably. I think only one of them is still available: the Creative Expressions by Sue Wilson, Window Box and Accessories set has 3 beautiful little butterflies (and is a cool set to boot 😉)

Wow, it is amazing. But I got lost, making copious notes, I’m trying to figure out from your list, exactly what colours/paints you used for specific making (ie wood grain), I’m trying to make a list so I know what to buy. Do you have a more specific list of what items you used exactly for each part. Do you know what I mean? Thanking you in advance, I really really want to make this, I’ve ordered and received the 87 piece die set. Now I want to get making and I have nothing in ways of colouring tools, starting from scratch. Would really appreciate any help. thnx.

Thank you so much Yvonne! Welcome to the Tim Holtz houses club ;) I can give you more specific details of what I used, but please know that you can use anything you already have. If you have some inks or watercolor around they will do a great job too. I happen to love distress inks and use them for a lot of things, but I don't want you to feel like you have to buy what I use to get great results! The textured paper (I used Distress woodgrain paper) does a lot of the work for you in getting a realistic wood texture, so I would start with that. For the coloring I used gathered twigs and brushed corduroy Distress inks, and added a little frayed burlap distress oxide ink. The frayed burlap oxide is brown with a green undertone, and when you add water it really looks like old moldy wood. After the inks dried, I used a little bit of walnut stain distress crayon just on the top of the texture to bring it out. You can also use paint for this step if you don't have crayons. I recently colored some woodgrain paper in this livestream: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6fNm42rmryqn7s (you can skip straight to the "Let's talk shingles" chapter about 1 hour in). This video part of a series of building a Tim Holtz house live, it's longer, but this means I can go into more details than in an edited video. I used the woodgrain for the roof, not the walls, in this case, but the coloring technique is the same. Well, this came out pretty long... I hope it helps!
