Thought you would fill the middle groove with clear epoxy. That would also spread out the light across the entire ring, not to say protect the tubes and hinder them getting dirty.

A clear epoxy with no bubbles would have been the perfect last touch. Actually was going to comment the same thing but you had already done the work for me! * And no Kamea, he wouldn't have used green epoxy because the point is to show off the Tritium tubes. CleAr epoxy would preserve the integrity of the glass phials. Mine is in a "checkered" slot pattern 'pendant' made with titanium and tungsten carbide. One awkward hand motion or finger spasm against an acute corner of any substance with a 6+ hardness rating (glass has a 6 hardness rating at least via scratch testing, proving loss of integrity. ). A single hairline crack and all luminescence is lost, irretrievably. Damascus steel is such a Gorgeous medium to work with. Such talent and the knowledge of proper tool use, seemed to be a dying art in today's heavily computerized and autonomous world. But if this "damndemic" did anything it gave all of us a chance to contemplate and reignite passions we all had in years gone by. The things that may have defined us at some point, the activities that let our hearts and minds shimmer in vastness of possibilities. The things we started to slowly move away from because life's constructs, the ones we are all seemingly born into, FORCED us to follow the mainstream 'normality' that although differs from region to continent, the steadily increasing pressure to sell the one treasure that's been our birthright all along. We sell the precious finite moments that we were each allotted at birth. The truth is... Well I can't tell you your truth. That's what that existential horror we feel sometimes waking up in a cold sweat at 3 in the morning is based on. Our life dripping away seconds, stealthily purloining minutes, and opening the flood Gates, a deluge of years. Terror and heart stopping realizations. How did I get here?, Where did all the time and ambition go... This is what the lucky of us have found. Or more accurately 'rediscovered'. Whether it's painting, singing, writing or picking up a musicical instrument again. All of us regardless of color religion or Creed we all have a light inside of us. The ability to laugh at something with a stranger, or forgoing some of the stigma that recent propaganda may have shed. Help an elderly person regardless of what religious Garb they may be wearing. This is the DIY year for us Americans. Pick up that craft you may have started but boxed up when life's Siren call to Work blared seductively silent except for the carefully crafted even subliminal messages like of what product you HAVE TO HAVE. Things we are blissfully ignorant of until we are saturated with the call for more. So long winded yes. Off topic, def. But this time is a blessing before the storm. Dangerous times ahead. So far we've seen the test run of this man-made substance (the 19th iteration of it. It lacks DNA, but carries markers in it's RnA, a signature, if you will. This is the tool created to 'cull the herd'. Population control...Globalists want the elderly, the sick or inform. Addicts, prisoners, transients, people under a certain yearly average income. Expect a resurgence with a higher fallout rate with elevated symptoms and faster-broader infection time and rate. Because we are all truly expendable to the top 2%

I'm no jeweler but am a machinist and gunsmith. Just my thoughts if you are open to building on your idea.The holes left over along the edges look unfinished. A contrasting metal insert to cover the holes or some sort of precious stones for the tritium light to shine through would have made it super cool. I'm thinking some little diamonds, cubic zirconium stones or even fiber optic glass rods for plugs. Another design would be similar to what you did here except to completely hide the tritium tubes and cut windows in different patterns for the light to pass through and illuminate some stones that would contrast and compliment the design. During the day the stones would make it pop but then as the lights go down it would illuminate like nothing anyone has ever seen before. I can see all sorts of potential uses for these tubes.

@James Davis Tritium has a half-life of 12.32 years after which, assuming that the light emission intensity of the phosphor is linearly dependent on the amount of beta particles, the intensity halves. So after about 12 years, it will still glow but with only half the strength. And after 24 years, the intensity will be only a quarter of the original one but the glow will still persist. With a higher concentration, the intensity also halves after 12 years, but since the intensity was much higher before, it will still glow after many more years

honestly, those vials probably have a very VERY small amount of tritium in them, and are likely mostly just green phosphor. also, you can buy and sell it in the US, you just need a special liscence. but yeah, for thos curious, tritium doesnt actually glow at all, but it does emit electrons as it decays, which cause the phosphor to emit light. these vials work the same way as the gun sights mentioned above. also, for the safety conscious peeps out there, this stuff is really not very dangerous. it's a small amount of beta radiation, and it's almost entirely safe if you dont drink or inhale it, in which case it may slightly increase your risk of cancer.

Alright so, here's the plan on how you could sell these rings.. I'd personally would love to have a ring like that, but I don't have the skills to make one myself.. so, let's begin. Step 1. - Make the rings themselves without the tritium veils. Step 2. - People could buy the tritium veils themselves on a webpage in China or anywhere else where you can buy the veils without it being illegal. Step 3. - Once the buyer gets his ring and tritium veils in separate packages, they can begin placing the tritium veils into the ring. Step 4. - Voila, you have yourself a legal ring that won't break any laws.

Jake Hildebrand Did I say it wasn't? Tritium is a beta emitter which is a fast moving electron. Beta has extremely low rates of ionization because the mass of an electron is almost nothing. If it was an alpha emitter it would be more potent because of the mass of a alpha particle and it's ability to ionise.
@madnessbydesignVria6 жыл бұрын
It looks very cool, but aren't those vials prone to getting broken (being exposed)? I'd imagine you could put acrylic or CA filler in the groove to protect them. Still, it does look totally badass...
@Lunas25256 жыл бұрын
yes as they are glass he is wrong about something it is not illegal to sell in the US it does require a license though... There is a lot of regulation on anything radioactive. Also the gas itself is odorless colorless and overall is much the same as hydrogen. The glow is from the phosphorus coating on the inside glass the alpha radiation of the hydrogen causes the phosphorus to glow. Tritium has a 12.5 year half life the vials will diminish and eventually stop glowing.
@ChaosOptional6 жыл бұрын
Really cool! Get yourself a matching reamer for the next...
eventually, most of those vials are rated for about 15-25 years before their glow gets rather dim.

I'm sure this tritium ring is a lot less dangerous than the radium-dial watches that they used to sell. A glowing green ring makes me think of Green Lantern's power ring, but I guess this one won't give you the ability to form objects out of pure will power.

Radium IS much worse....tritium is one of the most harmless radioactive gasses...however, I think in the US it may be illegal to buy/sell...I'm not certain. It turns out its also a coveted national defense item of concern. ...can't make hydros go boom without it and it's got a short shelf life.

I used to wear a radium watch as a kid. I don't know what became of it. The women employed to paint the radium on the dials died young, and some of their graves are hazardous.

I will add: Tritium can be corrosive due to the huge number of decay events. Tritiated water is VERY corrosive compared to normal water. And of course it should pretty much go without saying that Tritium can heat up. It takes a lot in one place, compressed at high densities and good insulation, but it actually has a pretty decent power/weight ratio. After all, even at the weak decay energy of Tritium, 12.32 years half life is SCREAMINGLY radioactive. It spews out 4613.6 watts/kg of energy, although of this only 1414.6 watts is actually useful electron energy, the rest is antineutrinos. Rest assured, a solid material like, say, polyethylene, made of with Tritium instead of hydrogen would emit impressive amounts of power. (although again, ~70% would be as useless anti-neutrinos). In that particular case 1 kg of the stuff would emit nearly 500 watts of heat and 1000 watts of antineutrinos.

Cool, but those ultra delicate vials are exposed to damage if that ring was every worn. So its basically just a picture subject item, there's no way those vials would survive if that was worn as a ring. One crack in that glass and good bye glow. I know from experience.
@aaroneaton74126 жыл бұрын
R. J. Cranson you could epoxy them in
@diggumsmack26 жыл бұрын
Aaron Eaton, it's not that I'm saying they will fall out. Yes you can epoxy them, super glue them or even do it the correct way and use Norland Optical Adhesive #61 to secure the vials. My original point was this: if the vials are installed sticking out of the machined recess at all, they are subject to abrasion, shock and cracking.
@brandonkraayenbrink26966 жыл бұрын
Also these vials are made out of borosilicate glass which is basically Pyrex. Very strong and highly durable.
