You do beautiful work. I hope one day to play violin well enough to be deserving to own one of your instruments
@LucasFabro3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your kind words!! But I don’t think it should be like that, it’s not if you’re worthy of a good instrument (and also who could be the judge of that) but if not what can the instrument give to you! At the end of the day the instrument is a “tool” so it has to serve your purpose, that can go from something as simple as giving you happiness and joy to providing you comfort and a better sound! Thank you very very much again for your comment and I hope you’re well :)

Beautiful video! I find your videos really calming. I like the sound of wood carving, the dim lighting, and how a piece of wood gradually turns to the shape of a great violin. This is real art!

Thank you very very much for your nice comment! I’m really happy you enjoy them! Usually after editing the videos which takes a lot of time and knowing what I do already I don’t really watch them again haha, but I have to say I’m quite happy with how the new ones are coming (visually and the sound) that I’m even watching them again and helps me see how fascinating the process is (as I guess I kind of got used to it already so it’s easy to take it for granted).

How do you gauge how much wood to remove to keep the dimensions similar , do you have some sort of guide to say keep the curve consistent so it’s not thicker or thinner or even off centre ? Thank you

How dare you make a great video with a funny intro, perfect maple and then also have that lovely sound of a gouge going cross grain... ;-) But seriously, I love what you are doing with these videos! They're getting really good :-D

I totally agree!!! I thought the thing about the shirt was hilarious, too! I, however, not only seem to wear the same T-shirt on consecutive days, it actually IS the same shirt!!! (I'm not as fastidious as Lucas.... Ha ha.)

Hahaha, I tried fixing some of the problems from the last video, some are still there but going more in the direction that I want so thanks :) Hey...I can sometimes be funny too 🙄 Unfortunately combining violin making which requires a lot of silence and concentration with funny things is not easy though, so I guess it will be a once in a life situation 😬

Yeah, I couldn’t help but noticing I was wearing a very similar shirt and made me feel a bit crazy 😜

Kathy, if you look at around 8:50 you’ll probably see the gouge movement I was telling you yesterday (or was it the day before?)

@@LucasFabro Yeah I can see that, I really like what you're going for! And yes, I know what you mean. Even the ability to talk I feel I'm losing sometimes, since I'm either making, playing, writing or calculating, but I very rarely get to talk these days. So I feel ya :-P But nah, you're a pretty funny guy anyway. I feel like people have a tendency to think violin makers can be a bit up tight just from all the snob Strad talk, but I'm happy to say I have only ever talked to one that I found was like that, and probably about 20 that were quite the opposite! You're among the 20, don't worry ;-) I'm very much looking forward to the next video btw. It's really interesting to see your improvement in filmmaking, you're making quick progress!

Lucas, you once again gave us a great video. Is this violin going to be built in the baroque or modern style? I am looking at the Amati models for my future builds of a baroque violin and viola. Thanks for the videos.

Thank you again for your comment and support. As I always say it’s only due to the positive feedback and comments I get here that I keep posting these videos! This one is going to be a modern one. Had to postpone finishing the baroque one again even if I’m a only some days away from completing it but I have some commissions which I have to finish on time 😬 For my baroque ones I tend to use Amati models as well! Love those models!

Hey Lucas, I think there's an issue with your sound recording, it's only coming out on the left when I listen to it. It might have something to do with the stereo settings.

I always thought the top and back were bent with steam and heat or something.
@LucasFabro3 жыл бұрын
Let me tell you that you're not the only one! But no, there's a lot of wood removal and exercise involved hahaha. And you can't even imagine how much there is for a cello!
@ahumanmerelybeing3 жыл бұрын
@@LucasFabro I thought that too! Is it ever done that way with cheaper instruments? Or are we just completely off-base here? :D
@LucasFabro3 жыл бұрын
@@ahumanmerelybeing Nope! All violins are made this way, but you're both not on a completely wrong track as some viole da gamba used to be bent (and some people still make them that way!)
@ahumanmerelybeing3 жыл бұрын
@@LucasFabro Do you happen to know about other instruments, like the mandolin? I mean the archtop type we play in America, not the bowlback type popular in Europe.
@LucasFabro3 жыл бұрын
@@ahumanmerelybeing Absolutely no idea! Hahaha Wouldn't even know where to start with a guitar for example!
