Virtual Pinball Table...Thought I'd have a go at making a Virtual Pinball Machine. No idea if this is going to go as planned...but we'll see. Here's Part 1 of several (hopefully) :-)
Intended use: visual pinball, zen pfx2 and the pinball arcade
Equip: Maxicam CNC, Axminster AW10BSB2, Bosch GCM12GDL

Can you post a picture of your shop. I am totally envious of your tools and the space you must have to house them. Impressive woodworking.

Thanks guys...good tools always make things a little easier, but the project so far could still be done with some basic tools. The CNC makes things a lot quicker and easier, but if only I had got the next size up :-)

Just discovered this today and want to congratulate you on this fantastic project. Have watched all vids and had a lot of fun. Wish i had those skills myself. I can only dream of having this setup / cabinet at home.

Thanks...I love video editing and making my own music...so this project was a great way of being able to do both. But in all honesty, I really had no clue what to do when I first started. I had to ask so many questions on the forums and spend many hours googling :) I was fortunate to own some decent tools which definitely helped, but I really didn't know if I'd ever be able to see the project through to the end. Even now I look at the cabinet and wonder how I managed it ha ha. I still have a real dmd to install which I'm going to add to this series...I'm just too scared to mess with it in case I mess something up :)

can you give dimensions of it all ?
@Smugwood
@Smugwood 8 жыл бұрын
The 'rough' measurements are shown in the video (part 1) on a scrap piece of paper. That's honestly all I worked off. The finished machine is probably slightly different in size due to inaccuracy of cuts and the odd change here or there to suit the tv I'd bought etc, but the dimensions aren't far off the drawing. Hope that helps :)

well now i'm stuck with this virus. Currently reading lots of stuff on the forums. There are detailed widebody plans to be found on the net. Another option i'm considering is buying a very old worn down non working real table and strip everything out. Food for thought.

did you ever share your plans for this cabinet? Love to get a copy
@Smugwood

There were some rough sketches on the first video but they changed slightly as the build progressed. I think it’s difficult to follow a particular plan as all the different TVs, monitors etc vary in size and shape which can affect the overall build. Even now, if I built another, I’d probably just end up ordering all the parts I’d need and built the cab around those...and I’m pretty sure it’d be different to the one I have now. 👍

Trying to think now...pretty much all ply...18mm though I think. Wasn't the easiest stuff to work with, but much easy to fix together than MDF etc.

The tools make a lot of the jobs much easier but I’ve seen people build the cabs with not much more than circular saws, jigsaws and straight edge guides. 👍👍

SandPly or Birch?
@Smugwood
@Smugwood 7 жыл бұрын
Just normal plywood...birch ply would have been a lot easier to use but far more costly and I'm not sure if the sheets would have been big enough at 5ft x 5ft.

Great! That's on my list of projects to tackle. Just finished my MAME a few months ago. Are you finding it to be pricey?
@Smugwood
@Smugwood 9 жыл бұрын
Greg Palko A little...if you already have a decent computer, then that's half the cost saved already. There's a lot of hidden costs, even things like paint, brushes etc all add up. And genuine pinball parts don't come cheap either, like the legs, rails etc. However, now that it's almost finished and Ive had time to test it I've found it's so much more enjoyable than playing tables on an iPad and even a console as you see the whole playfield, and there is an added realism with it being set in a cab.
