Great video, Richard! Does aircraft upholstery require any special treatment such as fire resistance?
@oldschoolautoupholstery4 ай бұрын
Hello Tryan, Thank you so much for saying so. Most aircraft with data logs require FAA Burn test material certificates. Experimental aircraft such as this Rutan Cozy does not. I have had customers in the past forgo the more expensive FAA burn test materials. So there we have it. Please keep liking and watching!

Quite the project Richard. Turned out beautiful. Quick question... back in the 60's I bought some yellow naugahyde and made a fringe vest for my younger sister. I remember having to put vegetable oil on the face of the vinyl because it was sticking to the presser foot. You don't seem to have that issue. Are you using a nylon presser foot? Or is there something I am missing? Thanks!!
@oldschoolautoupholstery4 ай бұрын
Hello Judih, Thank you so much for saying so! Well, from what I understand, back in the 60's there were the original Nauga's from deep down in the Jungles of East Lava. They had long become extinct. So the closest they ever got to those was the west end Nauga's. Very similar. I use automotive and marine vinyl's that are relation to those Nauga's. Hehe. Just a regular 'Ol welt foot. Great job! I've been around and working on airplanes for as long as I can remember. That's the first Cozy I've ever seen. I've been around Ez and Long Ez but never a Cozy. I did a seat for an Ez, sheep skin for the bottom and back and it was difficult working with the "fur"). Any tricks for working with fur? You didn't mention the little cuts you made at each corner as you were sewing... Is that one of your super secret techniques? Did the owner ask you to weight them so he could update his weight and balance? As always, thank you for the video and I really appreciate you.
@oldschoolautoupholstery4 ай бұрын
Hello Greg, well it sounds like we both may have had similar experiences? The only thing I can think of working with fur is that you have to stroke it! Hehe. Yep, little cuts for the 90 degree corners. Please keep liking and watching!

@@oldschoolautoupholstery I was at the Oshkosh air show in about 1985 when Dick Rutan set a speed record from California to Wisconsin in the his EZ. The plane was parked with its nose “kneeling “ on the ground at the Oshkosh air field and Dick was standing near it. He was a tall, thin build man. All this made a big impression on me and I can’t still see it in my mind. The plane’s shape made me think of a hammer head shark.
